World Championship 2009 (Czech Republic)

What about that Emil Sayfutdinov doesnt he look something special Shocked If Dennis G is half as good as Emil what a reserve pairing we would have had Wink Thought the lay of from Elite league racing by the riders proved to be a good move, particularly with Nicholls thought he look sharp out of the gates, could be his year Rolling Eyes  Laughing  Laughing As for a spectacle there was more overtaking in the under 21s at Lakeside Friday  Cool
Think Lukas would have done better than Kos

Terrible Entertainment - Emil excepted

I thought it was a really aweful advert for speedway. You can only win in the first part of the meeting if you are out of gate 4, and if you don't get to the first bend in front, all you do is follow the guy ahead around the white line for 4 laps. Sad
Later on other gates work, but overtaking is virtually non-existant.

Emil was very impressive, fast, a bit mad, and at times all over the shop. Oh how this meeting needed his input. Razz

Nicholls was dreadful. The reduced racing has made him worse, and even less likely to find a club if he changes his mind.

Still it was the first GP and things can only get better. Lets hope Leszno has some overtaking. Rolling Eyes

Surely it is not too much to ask that whoever prepared the track in Prague, should have been able to make it fair for all riders. To have only gate 4 any good for part of the meeting, is not on. Shocked  As for gate three it was an absolute disgrace. Nicholls was a great disappointment, even though Tatum was in his corner, also Bomber was not fast enough. By now they both should know what type of engines they want for the big tracks. If this is how they are going to race, then we can forget the World Cup. Perhaps it might be an idea to choose mostly the youngsters, we know they will try, and they can do no worse, even though they might not have the experience. Wink  It has perhaps proved a point that you need to race more, as  Bjerre and Lindgren showed much better form. Nicki certainly made an error in picking red for his semi-final, and he acknowledges that he made a couple of errors. Will be interesting to see what happens in two weeks time. Exclamation

So here we go, same old, same old with Nicholls and Harris, the "backbone" of Team GB Exclamation  Rolling Eyes  Rolling Eyes

About time they packed it in and concentrated on their various league teams, after this many years in the GPs they should know what to expect trackwise and enginewise, mind you I suppose it all adds to the tension in the last couple of rounds to see if they will make the cut for automatic qualification Exclamation

it would seem there is more " bull " than "dog " .they were pathetic in the last world cup too . they just do not appear professional in this sort of company , and their machinery bears no comparison at all . Sad

whats the alterative then Ray? who would you drop and who would you replace them with?
ray

well they " qualified " by wild card entries , suppose GB must be represented . who else parker , at this time there is not anyone . in the not too distant future , perhaps bridger . rob lyons' job as GB team manager must seem almost to  be" mission  impossible" . so
who would you recommend then as replacments?  Sad  Embarassed

A difficult question Parker; be brave and blood Woffinden, Kennett and Bridger for the full, or as long as we are in it!!, World Cup.Add in Nicholls and Harris, (because we have to), but rotate them with a couple of the younger brits who are showing promise. So, we may get hammered, but to let Nicholls and Harris live in the "comfort zone" of assuming that they will naturally get picked irrespective of the fact that their results, when they are up against proven international riders, are regularly poor is not the right way to go.

The younger riders will WANT to prove themselves, Nicholls and Harris have, in my opinion, proved that when it comes down to it, they are lacking in that final "something".

Nicholls wanted out of riding here this year, to concentrate on the GP, to improve, to do well, well on first showing nothing has changed.

I went along to the under 21 championship other than Lewis who on the night looked head and shoulders above the lot, Barker looked the next best closely followed by Mears, Woffinden with young Joe Haines looking one for the future. Listening to Rob Lyon on Skys panel for the Prague GP ( I just put that in to keep it in thread Ray Laughing )I thought he made a good point when he said that the youngsters are the future but at present we need the likes of Nicholls Screen Richardson if only for their experience  I think the future does look better than we thought with Lambert and Auty also doing well in the premier league. I can see in 3 years time most of the present old guard gone, particularly when you add the likes of Kennett, Stead in with the youngsters. I think this Lyon will prove a better manager than Lynch in the long term given a chance.
On present form I have a tenner on Lewis beating Nicholls I hope Lewis wins his way through to the Cardiff GP because i think he would do better than Kennett did last year
Shame for us Lukas fans he didnt make Prague as the Czech wild card Wink
Aussie we can guess the track was Olsens work again funny how many riders said the track was different from when they practiced a definite Olsen Trademark.

see barker has a badly broken leg . another continental track . remember martin used to say he would not ride them incase he got lost . Smile agree the racing on the huge slick tracks is so different to what we are used to , and nowhere as exciting as ours --- well to us a least . Cool

I think we have a long way to go before we can compete in a World Cup with a very good team. Bridger and Woffinden have the ability to compete at GP level possibly top 5. The likes of Kennett, Stead, Wright, Allen wont make it to GP level, as much as I would like them to. I can see Barker emulating Harris but no further, Auty hasn't really come on in the last few years. Haines could be a very good rider and is probably the next best hope after Bridger and Woffinden.
