Is this a hint for next season?

A little bit on the lines of COUSs' thread, but looking ahead, not back, I hope!

Are we being given an indication of what may happen next season?

Martin hagon signs a 15 year old with a view to loaning him out to a Conference League track.
He is reported to have said he would like to track 2 teams next season, one being Academy/Conference league, and he is keen to develop young riders.

Could this be taken as a sign that possibly the club is heading in the direction of the Premier League?

Would that be a bad thing?
With the way things have gone this season, and last, I thing people are heartily p****d off.
A change of direction could be the only way to re-generate interest in the club.

As things are at the moment we could say we are signing Nicki P, Gollob and Hancock next year, and people may still not be enthused.

What do the more learned members here think Question
MrB

Don't see why, they said a second team would ride on GP weekends, surely if we went PL we would ride on those weekends?

Anyhow most on here have been going on about a return to that league but it really doesn't appeal to me I have to say, while it's nice to see your young riders come through and into a team I wouldn't wan't them to get to the stage where they feel they have to leave to better themselves and then we don't see them again, yes there may be more teams more variety of meetings but I don't see the big attraction myself. I go to see races like Nicki against Leigh Adams last year, remember that? 2 of the best riders got giving an inch, that does it for me. Rolling Eyes

Personally, I dont see how they can run next year.  Last year Brimson lost a shedload of money.  Is this year any different.  No Nicki, but we have Nicholls, who wont have come cheap. So for me its not a matter of where they will race, but will they race. Obviously no one is going to admit to that at the moment.

whilst BD may decide again not to promote , the stadium and car park earn him money . without speedway and only stock car income he would still lose money , therefore it must surely be in his intrest to have someone else to take over . know what you mean about youngsters moving on to higher challenges and earnings . martin deano , david and others did this then came back in 1993

Personally I would prefer us to drop down into the Premier League and race Sunday afternoons. If we were to race in the Conference League as well it would mean that we could produce our own riders and avoid any expensive transfer fees.

I look at the Rye House setup and am quite envious of having a team like that to follow. Also with the changes made to the track in recent years it become too easy to ride for the away team. John Cook was right in that some of the tricks should be put back into Arlington to make it trickier to ride. In fact I don't blame him for leaving as Eastbourne had become and still is a little stale.

You could have the Premier League match first and the Conference League match after. It would make for a good afternoon's  entertainment. I would certainly go more often than I do now.

I'm very gratefull for the fact that the club is still running but the Promotion could do a little better for the fans and have lost the plot a little.

You and your Sunday afternoons !  It would mean an end to me watching speedway.  The way I feel at the moment that might not be a bad idea.

well think bobby would want a new promotion to take over and follow this path . the only way he could lose money then is if speedway stops . he obviously wants income from his
assets , [ who in their right mind wouldnot] , the income of stadium rent and other items such as the car park fees . nothing strange or unrealistic about that . we obviously do not have the understanding of running an elite league team[ this includes the team manager , but they appointed him and stayed with him  ] , nor the funds to do so . martin hagon has eyes on re-developing the future rider base that has always worked so well . we have the facilities to do so unlike most other tracks . so he could well decide a lower league to build up from  that again , we have done that before . the financial outlay would be considerably less as would the overall running expenses . also there would not be the problem of riders being required for fixtures of anykind back in their own countries , and no clash with overseas meetings on saturdays or sundays .  ok no top international stars , but the other options of a year like this again , or no speedway are far worse . as for team manager , our dream would surely be martin dugard , the master of arlington . but he is a very busy man with helping bobby at the track and work . maybe we would see the fourth generation of du gards , son of martin .  whatever we say or think one thing we must realise is that there would never have been speedway at arlington without the dugard dynasty .
emjay

Well Rayjay, one thing is certain.  EB would not survive another season in the Elite.  Maybe, just maybe, they will find someone to run in a lower division. But who would that be?  Hagon has not exactly shown himself to be the brightest star in the speedway firmament  How much money has he lost?  Will he risk another year, with all the talk of credit squeezes and the belt tightening that most will have to do.  We will not know because - unlike Brimson- he does not communicate.  And the Dugards? The fact that they own and rent out the track does not qualify them as good speedway managers.  And the non speedway business of both of them will be pretty demanding.

Listening to the Peterborough Match with Poole last night Swales indicted that they are formilating their possible team options for the 2009 season although he would'nt mention any names. Belle View have stated that they are likely to resign Jankowski & Boxall, Swindon have signed Pavlic and we know they have Adams on contract for another season. It seems that teams are putting together hit lists for next season.I wonder if our management has began drawing up its list or will we be having the preseason X factor type practices for the reserve spots Laughing  Laughing

it is more making sure certain riders will return , such as pavlic .this is understandable . as for actually building a team of seven riders , there are matters to be resolved first , such as the points limit , how many teams will consider the elite league financially viable , and this would include sponsors and other income , and costing outgoing and expenses .. pipe dreams only at this time , but hey it's fun , let's post about the team we would want within the present points limit .
just one point , this should surely be under " eagles 2009 " .

My posting was "a hint for next season" I was hoping that the management would, when the have their quarterly look round at our postings Laughing  it would jog their memory regarding signing those they wish to keep for next season now. Not wait until 2009! ok ray  Wink

I agree with Mr. B, I would rather see Elite League racing. IF we went PL and brought on young riders I could see the likes of Lakeside pinching the riders. I would rather see top riders. Even if we went PL we would be racing GP night's. Would the fans still come on GP nights. We would lose Eddie, Lewis, Cameron, possibly Simon and definitely Scotty & Lee. I agree emjay that the club have probably made a loss, but I wonder how many clubs have actually made a profit. You could see that when the cameras are their the crowds are sparse. Probably this is indicative of the crowds for other meetings. It is sad that this situation has arisen, but as a follower of speedway for many years, I have seen the sport go through this many times. Would rather go to speedway than football. Rolling Eyes  Wink

back to that old chestnut again , promoters MUST promote , because they haven't must be part of why they have lost money . it's hardly suprising , other club promoters do , ok many still lose money , but chances are if they have promoted properly they have lost less than they would have otherwise , why don't ours really make an effort bearing in mind meridian position still unclear , that would be a loss .
as for your comment paul , i take your point , but i consider we are talking about the 2009 season , in 2008 . you still haven't enabled me to use the smileys --- another written lesson please my friend .

How the hell can Peterborough be thinking about a team for next year. Not unless they already know what league they will be in????

I agree we should as long as it is financial viable to the promoter stay in the elite league. I believe BD put on record that this season has cost him £30000 (hence the thread re bobs hobby) Rays post promoters must promote  well I think Marketing would be beneficial although we are likely to go into recession sooner or later (luckily financiers say that it wont be as bad as under "Grey Major" Wink )there still appears to be successful businesses prepared to sponsor sport, thats where a good PR & Marketing person would be an asset to the club probably more use to us than Trevor Geer. As Aussie says sport periodically go through ups and downs but theres nothing like a good cup final win to a least create the opportunity to possibly gain sponsorship. Wink  Aussie I'd rather have the money that football generates than speedway.  Laughing

parker, many of us would like to see the sort of money that football generates, but certainly not the ego of the prima-donnas that play it. Thank god we have very few of these in speedway. One of the joys of going to watch speedway, that in MOST cases, but not all, you can have an argument with the opposition and come away safely. You can take your children knowing that they will be safe, providing ofcourse you keep an eye on them.  Wink  Wink

Can you imagine football having the same rules as speedway?
Adebayor scored 30 goals. Van Persie scored 15. Walcott scored 12. Bendtner scored 10. That's 67 and you are only allowed 50!
So we will keep Adebayor and Van Persie and loan Walcott to Spurs and Bendtner to West Ham. Shocked
I'm beginning to see why football gets bigger crowds Laughing

No you can't have a replacement at all. Each of the ten players must play nine minutes each in goal! Rolling Eyes

If you are losing by10 goals do you still get the tactical penalties, if so how many, and if you then still remain 10 down do you still get the 2nd set but from a further 15metres back Question  Wink
