Well, the club have decided to tackle the credit crunch; they are axing the stewards in an attempt to save money
After 20 or so years of trying to assist you good folk each meeting out in the car park, my services are no longer required.
Hopefully someone will still be out there, or it could become interesting
From a purely personal point of view I find this rather saddening; I first saw Speedway in 1971 and have worked as a member of the track staff in various capacities since about 1979.
As we do not get paid for our services, and haven't for as long as I can remember, theoretically I don't see as how they are saving money; no doubt they look at it as money gained by the fact that I will be paying to come in in future.
Well to be brutally honest, and at the risk of upsetting some of you, my "love affair" with the club I have followed for 38 seasons has diminished over the past couple of seasons, and events this winter have done nothing whatsoever to remedy that.
The farce concerning Edward Kennetts' transfer.
The fantasy second buyer.
The lack of consideration regarding season tickets/concessions.
The increasingly strange press announcements from Dugard that seem to fly in the face of information from other parties.
The total lack of any initiative to combat the financial situation affecting all aspects of life, except by finding ways of screwing more money out of the clubs existing customer base.
Come to that, the total lack of any initiative to try and reach out to "new" supportersin any shape or form whatsoever, as evidenced by the number of posts on that particular topic here, and on the other site, over the past months.
Now, yet again we have the question over whether the Russian is going to be here or not
The whole thing gives every impression of that famous "rudderless ship" that seems to crop up in the papers from time to time.
So, as I said, if any here are offended by my comments, I apologise, but there comes a time when frustration takes over, and yes, I am also somewhat annoyed at what has occured.
So it seems a good time to let rip.

kevin , how are they saving money when they were not paying those volunteers ? oh , they got in free , so are they going to pay to come in know ?the car park will likely descend to chaos , other stewards inside the stadium will not be there either ? oh what about the collecting of the £ entry to the grandstand , will there be an honesty box . yes but somebody nicked it , not really worthwhile though , hardly anything in it .
if it was the titanic they would do without the lifeboats . so this is going to keep the promoters solvent , really , are they sure they have thought this through . how can they do this to kevin , parker and the others . incidentally i know some who arrive early before the car park collection is in place .we will be making our own savings , now we can provide our own racecards who is gonna pay for a programme ?!

Sorry to hear this Kev.
I know times are hard, but his penny-pinching is unbelievable.
I'm the first one to baulk at all things "Health & Safety", but a lack of Stewards gives a genuine cause for concern.
I now truly believe the owner has lost the plot.
For years Eastbourne Speedway has been in the same hands, but the product, bizarre decision making & media releases have me thinking the the self-destruct button has been pressed.

The promotion are missing a trick.......

have a wee behind a tree !, in the car park . we are still paying the £ for those supposed improvements , part of which was improved toilets . no stewards to catch us , sounds only fair . what also is fair is that the club hold a legal responsibility to people and their property on the club premises . infact they are actually charging patrons for this . i spent many years dealing with liability to the public claims as the claims manager for the insurer of many companies who by law have to have this insurance . all kinds of personal accidents , damage to third party [ the public] property , notably motor vehicles being the most common and everyday events . with the owner of the property charging a fee to the public then by law they will be held accountable . should claims be lodged the property owners insurance will have to pay, with the result future insurance will have higher policy excesses to be borne by the property owner , higher premiums charged , and maybe difficulty in finding an insurer to underwrite the insurance --- which as stated is mandatory for the property owner to have otherwise they will be unable to trade . getta a load of that --- but it is the law .you see tv adverts regularly with the advertiser guaranteeing to obtain payment against the offending companies . they can and they will , it is the law . the companies are liable . with removing the stewards they have no control at all , or defence , and may be in breach of their insurance conditions , thereby leaving the company without insurance but still liable at law to pay .
now with the laws and obligations under " 'elf an' safety " the conditions are even more rigourous and the property owners will have to prove they have taken all reasonable steps to insure they have done their best in the protection of people or their property against damage .here endeth the lesson !!

so over 100 so far will not be buying programmes , apart from season ticket holders there will few paying the £ for entrance to the grandstand [ won't be so grand then !] , bar takings will all but disappear . what happens if people decide not to pay the car park fee , who will do anything about it -- not the former stewards that's for sure !? so how will they save or make money ?! intresting , wait and see when they realise what is happening

In all seriousness, I wonder if the fans' feelings (& not just on this site) are getting through to BD.
The fact is, there's a significant number of people who, due to their dismay with some of his decisions, will no longer pay
for a programme, sit in the stand, or purchase a season ticket.
This will hurt where it hurts most - in the pocket.
If he is not aware, then for the good of all concerned, he should be!

I am sure DaveA keeps him updated on developments, he is fairly quick to let people know he has "just come off the phone/a little bird has just told me...."
Also fairly noticeable how if any posts veer towards the controversial/critical,he goes very quiet
Bobs' man, methinks

Can any one tell me if any of the money from the JACKPOT DRAW goes to the club or does it all go in prizes ?
ray
good question .
zena
Would like to know as always buy a couple of tickets but if money is going to management will stop buying them,we are also going to use the bike as much as possible as at the moment we do not have to pay for the car park. I know it sounds mean but we are all feeling the pinch at the moment.
ray
we are all zena , but being ripped off we will not stand for . we will all be saving speedway money this year , if we work it right . trust , help and respect have to be mutual , but as they chose not to understand this we will look after ourselves , and eachother . the latter is noticable in the mutual help over the programme and seating issues . several have asked me to get them the £6 fisherman's chairs and i am doing so . we can all acquire free race cards as well now . so we are all saving £ 3 a time .
