Eagles v Wolves 22nd Aug 09

The possibility of 7 Eagles (finally) taking to the track....

The visit of our old rivals from Monmore Green....

Looks like the sun is going to be shining....

Im bringing a "Speedway Virgin" friend down for his first experience of our wonderful sport.

Should be a terrific meeting and lets hope the boys can pull off what I guess would be a suprise victory.

Im gonna stick my neck out and go for an Eagles win by 47-43.

Come on you Eagles....

Lovely day and I am hoping for win too.

This is not going to be an easy match. It needs ALL the team to be firing on all cylinders. Much will depend on how Nermark takes to the track, hopefully he will have had some practice on it. We need to win to go above Ipswich, who are one point ahead. Good Luck to all the team, and let's take at least two point, three would be nice. Wink

I think we need to tell the riders Speedway is a TEAM sport! Clearly our team manager is not capable of it  Exclamation   What a woefull perfomance Evil or Very Mad

Very disappointing....

Only 4 heat winners in a home meeting.

Totally outclassed and never looked like getting anywhere near Freddy or PK. Heats 13 and 15 were almost embarrassing.

And apart from the 5-1 in heat 10 pretty much outridden by Tai and Skornicki.

I always expected it to be a tough meeting but never thought we'd be beaten so comprehensively.

Another poor performance by Cameron and Lukas was well off the pace.

And Ricky continues to under perform at reserve.

I thought it was a very average meeting all round with very little close racing or passing, but luckily my mate enjoyed his first Speedway experience enough to want to come again.

Hopefully next time The Eagles might perform a little better.

you've just about said it all COUS . not only their riders really up for it , top notch machinery , we only beat them out of the gate once as a pairing , they were well ahead into first bend most races and drew away . if davey did lead lindgren or PK would simply go round him . a group of new people were near us [ aussie2 told them off using flash photography and they stopped . ] they asked were the wolves bikes had more powerful engines , why were they so much faster than ours . something about being professional is the answer .watching trevor in the pits holdind his head , reminded me of jim lynch the previously sacked that night at coventry in the world cup .neither had a clue what to do . some of us may have offered to hold their heads for them so we could see if anything inside worked .
anyway took my wife there again now she is fit again , also had to give the riders the usual painted models , saw some friends , others appear not to attend anymore , think we are in that category . certainly nor driving down on a friday night . what idiot decided that , week days causes many long distance riders too much time and aggro .
feel somewhat sorry for the riders , when the people who employ them simply do not know what they are doing . a lot of us have worked at places like that . Sad

I agree, a very poor performance. Lukas perhaps did have an excuse, he is still suffering from damage to his neck after a crash in Poland. The two who did do their part were Simon and Davey. It did not seem to phase Simon that he was at number two. We must remember that this is only Simon's second full season. Once again Lewis did not deliver, he seems as though he is just waiting for the season to end.  Mad They were not gating, it is no good giving the opposition a head start. Looks as though we will finish in 7th place, and not sixth. What a pity we could not get Nicki P back, he would put bums on seats, and mostly guarantee a win in heats 13 and 15.  Rolling Eyes  Wink

Think you're being a little harsh on Lewis Aussie2....

I know his behaviour sometimes leaves something to be desired, but it's only because of the failings of others that he has been forced into the no.1 position, which, as I said when it became clear that it was going to happen, is probably asking too much of him at this stage of his career.

Lets be honest here... Lewis is one of only two riders (Simon being the other) who has made any progress and improvement this season.

The other 5, who we all anticipated had the potential to improve, have at best stood still but in some cases (Cameron in particular) gone backwards.

these last two posts show why so many have ceased attending . a real promoter or manager would have realised this , they are our worst failings . look at the clubs that HAVE realised the problems . if cook had never left this would never have happened , yes we thought he had let us down , but who else was there for us and the riders for that long . Rolling Eyes hindsight is a wonderful thing  Idea

Bit hard on Lewis in this instance most of his races he was up against Lindgren and Karlsson who are on their day as good as any.Its been posted about how poor we were at team riding, true but in any competition you are only as good as the opposition allow you to be. Last night Wolverhampton were the better side they showed why they are top of the league. We look like doing slightly better this season than most predicted and again as posted it could have been better had the R/R for Floppy been sorted far earlier not until 5 meetings from the seasons end. Listening to Dave last night it sound as though hes now retired full stop, which to most was obvious far earlier in the season particularly due to the nature injuries he sustained. When its all over Aussie we will look back most will remember Nicki he did put bums on seats but even then gates were on the decline.
Speedway needs a thorough overhaul if its to get back to those "good old days" but thats for a different thread
MrB

When we did make the gate (which was about twice last night Twisted Evil ) we gave away places far too easily, riders didn't team ride and ended up racing each other rather than the opposition Exclamation  PK looked to be holding up riders in his first 2 rides but we tripped over each other looking for a pass. Twice last night comming out of bend 2 it was clear we were on a 5-1 and the leader should of let his partner through, twice that didn't happen and the second place Eagle went on to get passed. Even Lewis and Lukas had a race for 3rd in heat 13 Rolling Eyes  Talking of which, it's clear to me we are weaker in that heat so why is Davey riding at 3 Question

I wonder how this team only lost by ten at Swindle?

MrB agree about the team riding was non-existant and infact they frequently hindered eachother .eagles in the past were good team riders , remember the excitement our pair holdind theirs out ---that really got us going . surely we all remember those times .  they were the highlight of the match , even we were involved , leaping out of our seats , cheering as we felt we were part of it too .we were a team . seems that is no longer encouraged and the oppostiion take advantage of this . the elite pairs , but we lost it to a team riding pair .did well to get there , but MrB is on the button . maybe if we had a team manager it just might happen . well that is part of his job surely , to encourage and instill this into riders --- HENCE HIS TITLE .
as for davey at number 3 , we all were asking that question , somebody said davey didnot like riding at 3 , really ?! what has team manager to say about both those aspects , for the line up ex number one and reserves is his prerogative .suppose BD wouln't want or pay for the right man . pehaps the " right man" wanted to do his job as he saw it and others are simply control freaks and willnot let him do it --- if we had a team manager . it is ridiculous this point has been posted on for 2/3 seasons and still those responsible will not listen . but nothing new about that . team work involves the whole team , riders and non-riders .

I do not wish to be hard on Lewis, but at times last Saturday he was not his usual self. What happened to the teams gating technique, it certainly was not apparent on Saturday. Shocked  In today's Argus it did say that Davey Watt came back into the pits after his first race, and had to be helped off his bike and to take his goggles off. Apparantly he had a bad back spasm, the doctor wanted him to withdraw from the meeting, but Davy said no he would continue. With two of the team not fit, the rest of the team should have stepped up to the plate. Daniel Nermark was unlucky in getting excluded, when clearly he was pushed. Unfortunately it was on the referees blind side, clearly a call for two referees. Exclamation
