Eagles V The "Illegals", 6th June

Well this could be interesting  Shocked

A/  Will Nicholls be here?
B/  Will Kennett be sitting in his van, barred from the track?

If A, will the referree have the balls to tell Pratt that Nicholls can not ride if ratification  from the BSPA has not been given?

If B, what will the referree do if Bob carries out his threat if he has not received his money by lunchtime Saturday?
No doubt, as it is Eastbourne, we will be in the dark stuff as Coventry seem to get away with bending the rules, judging by the "penalty" they were given, even though they left Nicholls in the team after being told he was ineligible.

As for the match, with all these other distractions, will there actually be one Question
nug

Kennett will be riding Bob got the money today or so the other site says.

My sister is getting married at 12.30 in Swindon on Saturday... but it's only a quiet family do.

But following our magnificent win at Poole.... and because of the various goings on surrounding the Coventry line-up and the Eddie Kennett transfer fee.... I'd love to be at Arlington on Saturday night.

Who thinks it would be acceptable for me to make my excuses and leave the proceedings in Swindon by about 4 o'clock?

What a quandry....

It sounds as if Jordan Frampton has been droped from the Cov line up to fit Scott Nicholls in and I guess they have a couple more riders missing (Schlein for one) as they have been booking guests since yesterday Morning....

Bees :
1. Scott Nicholls or A.N. Other,
2. Rider Replacement for Filip Sitera,
3. Edward Kennett,
4. Adam Shields (Guest for Rory Schlein),
5. Chris Harris,
6. A.N. Other,
7. Josh Auty

Hi Mark
Just to make it more of a conumdrum ,I see Josh Auty withdraw from the Sheffield team last night after falling , so he might not be  fit.

Coventry at it again, manipulating the team to suit them. Mad  See the Jon Cook is up in arms about what has been happening re Poole and Coventry. Exclamation

Well if Nicholls rides, they have a formidable top 4 - but maybe not much else.
I prefer the solid 1-7 myself.
Weather looks a bit dodgy........

If Cookie is so upset at Coventry's "underhand" dealings... maybe he could persuade Adam Shields to suffer an off night!!!
speedy dan boy

if lukas is fit he is due to ride in one of the world qual rounds over the weekend, think coventrys sitera is also riding in one of them,so dont know whats going to happen regarding riders.Denis gizajob also goes in the italian one, good luck to him

edit no rory either for coventry looks like they have booked adam shields!!!!
ComeOnYouSpurs

So I guess it's gonna be a guest for Floppy (Travis again perhaps if he's available) and R/R for Lukas.

With Simon hopefully back at reserve it makes it a bit easier to cover.
Tweagle

Lukas is due to ride on the Sunday in the Czech Republic.

Dunno if he can do Coventry and that meet ?.

Schlein is due to ride in Lonigo, Italy on Saturday.
I don't know about Sitera, as he isn't listed on either meeting - presumably he has replaced someone injured - Batchelor maybe ?who was listed to ride in Lonigo.
Wells is competing in the USA apparently - he might even win a race their. Shame I'd have liked him in their side !.

I guess we'll just have to wait for an announcement. It wouldn't break my heart if we had to have a guest as long as it's McGowan and not Lyons !.

Isn't it marvellous how quickly the powers that be have agreed to Coventry's new team.   Sad  Why does it take so long for them to agree to meet with other matters which are just as serious. It is about time that we had an independant council set up, and anything that is reported by a team or other matters should be dealt within a week.
As for Kennett unfortunately I doubt he will get much of a reception from the Eagles fans. There is going to be so much tension in this meeting, and the team management at Coventry are not going to be popular. They seem to think they can flout the law. As Shaleman said in the in the Sussex Express, Coventry have been docked Nicholls points, but that really has not hurt them. They should have been docked the three points they gained as winners. This is the only way that teams that flout the points average, i.e. as in football you are docked the points.
sussexbulldog

Once again I agree with Aussie2 regarding the losing of the three points since what has been done has not made any difference to Coventry whatsoever.

Whilst I agree with an independent body, I can't see this happening in the forseeable future as it would add to costs considerably in paying salaries or fees to the members of the tribunal/committee.

Good to see youve noticed some of Footballs better practices, soon be a fan of the sport Aussie Laughing  Do agree with your post, and why should Coventry and Kennett get a good reception  Twisted Evil
sas

I am sure the only reason Scotts points were removed from Coventrys score was because they knew it would make no diference whatsoever to the final outcome of the match.  It was all just to show that they had done something however pointless it was.

Lets just hope our boys can show them they can win fairly and squarely without manipulating the rules.  Good luck for tomorrow and lets hope for some good solid support for the team.

Parker, definitely not a fan of football, I dislike it. Never watch a match on tv. Too many overpaid primadonnas, who do not earn the money they are paid.  Sad

At least its rules are implimented and enforced by an independant  body not as speedway with every promoter looking to find loop holes in the rules to satisfy their own agenda making a mockery of what was once a great sport Wink  Hope we  make our feelings known to Oakes and co. " Same old Bees always cheating"
Aussie2

I agree with you Parker, certain teams, mentioning no names, seem to be able to find a way round the rules. Perhaps their should be an extraordinary general meeting to sort the mess out that the BSPA have managed to create. I agree that injuries can hurt a team, perhaps they should take notice how we have abided by the rules, to our cost. Perhaps it is time for us to try and sign a top rider. I agree with BD that they now have FOUR HEAT LEADERS. Did they really need to replace Schlein with Shields. I know Schlein is on GP qualifying duty, but I am sure they could have managed without him. It seems it is WIN AT ALL COSTS. I for one WILL NOT ACKNOWEDGE the Coventry team. Normally I would not do this, as I love speedway, but it has so incensed me the way certain  teams have manipulated the rules to suit them.  I am sure many Eagles fans feel the way I do. They are doing a Brown "It is within the rules".   Mad  Evil or Very Mad
GazzaH

One way of displaying our contempt towards all of the Coventry Team is to take a leaf out of, believe it or not, the supporters of Juventus FC when they played at Liverpool a couple of seasons ago. In essence, when the Bees are introduced on the parade by Kevin why cant we just turn our backs on them if not, then absolutely no applause..... no Boos just complete silence. And the same treatment to Poole when they next visit. Just a thought mind!

There is a saying "cheats never prosper".  Smile A great team effort by ALL THE EAGLES. I suppose the one rider we can pick out is Lukas Dryml  Very Happy, though all six played their part. Simon was a revalation, considering he had been out for so long.  It was good to see the fighting spirit to the fore. The only thing that spoilt the meeting were the drunken louts, supposedly Eastbourne and Coventry fans in the grandstand. Perhaps it is about time we had security upstairs. Apart from this it was good to rub the Bees noses in the dirt.  Very Happy  Very Happy

Another very enjoyable night .Mr L Dryml take a bow and what a heat 15 again from cam ,that heat does get the best out of him.well done to the rest of the lads as well ,lets keep it rolling.

What a night! Anyone who missed this, missed a corker. Razz  The new Enhanced Coventry "Cheetahs" never lead the scores all evening even with Adam Shields who I thought was about their best import. Great support all round for the team lead by the LD fan club in the Home straight "shed". Inspirational pre match interview with BD. Better crowd, lots of Coventry fans.... think they probably had a Sh** ride home.....Magic Laughing Fantastic nights entertainment more of the same please.  Man of the Match.. Lukas Dryml Lukas, followed by Simon and well backed up by the rest of the team.  Downside of the night...Kennett pumping the air on his odd heat win, what a prospect he was until he left us. It was a great night's racing. Some Coventry supporters were even overheard to say that Adam Shields had been paid to lose his race. Shocked  There is no way a rider of Adam's stature would even contemplate this.  Shocked What a load of codswallop. Unfortunately it was spoilt by the alcohol fuelled, so called supporters, of both the Eagles and the Bees. My husband and I sit in the grandstand, and unfortunately could not hear any of the announcements. A band of so called supporters came upstairs already under the influence, they were totally obnoxious and the language was an absolute disgrace. Shocked  Families were leaving the grandstand because of the fighting,  Shocked and when security were called upstairs, only one person appeared. He could not control them. Confused  If BD wants more supporters, then this sort of behaviour must be stopped. There have been disagreements amongst supporters before, but this is the first time that I have seen it deteriorate to this disgraceful behaviour. To my mind they should be banned.
When Lukas Dryml came in to the supporters clubroom, he got a standing ovation. Well done to Simon, many wondered how he would manage after his long layoff. He answered them by his scoring.   Razz  Razz

Quite an evening. Where I sit therr were no problems but sorry you had problems in the bar Aussie. All the boys did a superb job and showed those cheats.
Kevin54

What an excellent result, shows that "manipulation" of the rules does'nt work!
Perhaps Nicholls was riding to orders last night, so that Coventry can sign a 5th heat leader  Wink

As for Lucas, I am running out of hats to eat, he's proved me totally wrong in my doubts over his signing, will be a toss up between him and Simon for "rider of the year", perhaps they will have a joint one Question

Indeed.. Remember how footballers show thier class when they don't celebrate when scoring against a former club... Well Ed showed none last night.

How nice it was to beat a team with so many heat leaders, and Bob's speach just wanted to make me go and shake his hand Laughing

A great atmosphere too and despite some banter on the home straight I saw no trouble, must of just been confined to a few Mad

1 downer I have to mention and that was the dust levels last night, for me that was not acceptable, I know the weather and the forcast was slightly dodgy but the dust levels were almost at Poole levels Rolling Eyes

Hi Everyone.
This is my first post here and all i have to say is this.
I have followed the Eagles for over 30 years and at last we have a rider who gives us ( THE PAYING PUBLIC) value for money.
He,s a showman and entertainer who,s piling up the points
Poole used to have Zorro we have LDL
Need i say more.
Congrats to the team for beating those cheats!!

The fight upstairs was among a group of "friends" from Hailsham. Nothing to do with Coventry fans.

Fully agree with you, Brian (bet you didn't think I would say that, did you?)

Entertainment value doesn,t get much better than that. What a great advert for speedway. This team keeps on defying the odds.I didn,t think we would win.Who said Lukas could only ride large tracks. Very Happy

Most of us assumed that it was between two sets of fans as some were shouting for Eastbourne and others for Coventry. In any case their behaviour was absolutely disgraceful. For any newcomers to speedway it must have been a shock to see people behave in this way. It spoilt the meeting for many of us, on what should have been a momentous night. We do not want this sort of behaviour, and if it happens again they should be banned from the stadium. Good for BD for saying what he did, if the so called big moneyed clubs want to keep on employing the top riders, then they may find no Elite League left. Most of the clubs cannot keep us with the likes of Coventry & Poole. What happens when Nicholls month is up Question

firstly lets get down to the meeting... since going to speedway starting in 2000, i have not had the pleasure of such a hard meeting for our team with such a line up from the coventry side. and a big round of applause for bob dugard making the comments he did. (bob you need to stand as an MP mate) as for the eagles team a big WELL DONE each and every one of you.... keep that up and the 2000 elite cup will not be far from your dreams, and of course ours. Secondly and most importantly, the argueing up stairs in the bar area.... local or not, it is not a welcome sight.... thumbs up to diffences of opinions,,, we are allowed them.... but drink fuelled arguements and the threats of violence is something i do not welcome.... if you want to do that then join the army and become a real hero,,,, any more of that sort of action will only reduce supporters and increase the possible closure of the sport.... the crowd that was there on saturday is possibly the biggest this season, and hopefully will continue, but that sort of irresponsible actions fuelled by beer is not my idea of a night of fun.....  Sad AGAIN well done to the team for the best night of speedway...... keep it up boys...... Very Happy

From the Argus this morning

Dugard lets rip at Coventry  By Brian Owen

Defiant Bob Dugard insists he has no regrets about his extraordinary pre-match verbal attack on a rival club.

The Eastbourne Eagles promoter took the microphone minutes before his side raced against star-studded Coventry Bees to accuse the visitors of damaging the Elite League with their team-building policy.

He then looked on proudly as his side led from heat one and scored a 49-41 success before a season’s best crowd of more than 1,500.

Lukas Dryml, the man who arrived in Sussex this year as a rider who apparently could not fathom small tracks, led the hosts with paid-16 including two key wins in the last three heats.

It was an extraordinary night at Arlington and Dugard’s pre-match tirade contributed.

He told fans: “You can rest assured Coventry will pull every stroke in the book.

“They are renowned for that.”

He went on to accuse the Bees of stealing Edward Kennett and attempting to steal Simon Gustafsson from Eastbourne.

Referring to a line-up which included four top-line riders in Kennett, GP duo Scott Nicholls and Chris Harris and Aussie star Adam Shields as guest for Rory Schlein, he said: ”The repercussions of what they have done here today will go through the whole of the sport.

“They have done so much damage to the sport and don’t even realise that.

“Next season will show how much damage they have done.

“We said in the winter it would a very tough economical season and we should really look to work within our means and possibly even try to run at a small loss.

“What Coventry have done here today, if anyone wants to compete against them they have got to find £50,000 or £70,000 to strengthen their team.

“Other clubs can’t do that but Coventry can.

“I think they deserve to win the league because they have bought and paid for it.”

He added: “None of my anger is directed towards the Coventry riders or their supporters.

“It’s purely against the management and I think they have done so much harm to the sport and they are not even bright enough to realise it.”

Eagles fans cheered Dugard’s comments but must have also wondered whether he just given Coventry the ultimate motivational team talk.

Instead, the hosts led all the way with Dryml and fit-again Simon Gustafsson in superb form.

Dryml only dropped points in one of his six races and Gustafsson would have been close to a maximum but for a disqualification in a messy start to heat 12.

As if the meeting was not tough enough, Eagles found themselves racing against three Arlington experts in Kennett, Nicholls and Shields.

But Eastbourne grabbed an early six-point advantage and hung in there.

The hosts led 37-35 after Kennett out-manoeuvred Lewis Bridger off bend two in heat 12 for a Bees 4-2.

Dryml, though, kept the lead intact by beating Harris and Nicholls in heat 13, then Gustafsson made the gate in the penultimate race.

When Cameron Woodward challenged Shields for second, the Bees guest went down and was disqualified by referee Dan Holt.

The subsequent 5-1 over young reserve Josh Auty in the re-run assured victory.

Full points were banked as the gutsy Woodward claimed third, between Harris and Shields, in a thrilling heat 15 won by Dryml.

Dugard savoured the result and said: “It’s better than money, better than winning the pools.

“I didn’t dare even think we could win like that but the lads did me proud.”

He defended his pre-match comments, saying: “It's the only chance I ever get to tell my people what I really think.

“This was the perfect opportunity to actually tell them the truth.”

Coventry co-promoter boss Allen Trump played down Dugard’s criticism, saying: “I don’t think you can criticise a club for trying to put out their strongest team.

“Bob is an old hand at this. He got the crowd and the riders whipped up.

“This was one of the most partisan crowds I've seen all season.”
