Eagles v Coventry - Sky match

Not much on here about Mondays meeting. Is it still on? If it is, and the weather looks OK, I might go.  For various reasons have not been able to get to Arlington on Saturdays for some while.  Being Monday, hopefully we will have a full team?
sussexbulldog

Still on afasik.
Hope it is a full away mode team
Aussie2

According to the weather forecast on the BBC today, it is going to be okay. All I hope is that the team does not have "I cannot gate" mood. Rolling Eyes  They need to gate in front and then we stand a chance. It is a must win. It seems that at times that the team is demoralised because of what BD said at the Belle Vue meeting. Simon is one of the few who tries his best at all meetings. If we do not ride in 2010, he will be an aset to any team. All I hope is that BD does not sell his assets, but keeps them, in the hopes that the Eagles will rise again.  Exclamation  Exclamation

Not a good evening for Eastbourne riders in poland today(6/09/09)

Simon Gustafsson-injured in his 1st ride for Orzel Lodz and took no further part in the meeting.

Daniel Nermark-managed just one ride before pulling out of the meeting for KM Ostrow

Lukas Dryml-who was unbeaten in his 3 rides for Rzeszow then wipes out 2 riders and himself in his 4th ride. All 3 riders up after treatment and lukas is excluded.

we are either going to have some battered riders or have to find guests for the sky meeting
Sophies Mate

Trevor has moved quickly and has booked Joonas Kylmakorpi in at 5, Paul Hurry at 6 with R/R at 2. Think he has booked a couple of good guests there - esp Paul after last weeks performance for the Eagles.
ray

moved quickly , yes michelle , but probably not too wisely . hurry only rides lakeside with such aplomb , at our place he never does well .both riders are former eagles , but time and injuries have taken their toll . we are very much weakened , these two and r/r to replace lukas , simon and daniel . think there will be problems . never mind --- kling for heat 13  Shocked  Rolling Eyes
Sophies Mate

would have liked to have seen Travis as a guest - not sure if his average would have fitted? Still Paul has got to be better than some of the guests he could have got for Daniel. Be interesting to see if they do a taticial replacement for Kling at all - give him the three rides and drop him would be the best way to go. Of course he could surprise all of us and get his earlier seasons form back
ray

good ideas under the present situation and six riders tonight . ever thought of being a team manager ? Smile  Rolling Eyes  Wink

NoLukas,no Simon that is so disappointing i was really looking forward to this meeting. Now with Kling and Hurry were going to lose. Sad
ComeOnYouSpurs

I reckon our chances rest largely on which Watt turns up... and whether the pathetic Kling finally breaks his run of pathetic last places.

From recent performances I don't hold out much hope.... but I'm open to being proved wrong Wink
sussexbulldog

Let's hope that Davey is up for it and JK and PH want to prove how well they can ride Eastbourne.  Paul was a different force when he road for us before all of his injuries.

Best wishes to Simon, Lukas and Daniel for speedy recoveries.
Aussie2

It seems that some people are never satisfied. If TG does not get any replacements you grumble, when he does you still grumble.  Confused I would say that perhaps any Swindon riders could be a no-no, as far as Rossiter is concerned. After all they are after their first Elite League Championship in a very long time, and he would not want to risk any of his riders. Exclamation  My husband and I did say that perhaps Hurry could be one of the replacements, and if not Travis McGown then perhaps Joonas. As long as Davey Watt rides like he can and the rest of the team pull their weight, we might get a win. I do not care if it is only by one or two points. Rolling Eyes  Wink
Sophies Mate

My post was not criticising Trevor,(in fact both of my posts were positive comments about Trevor) he has moved quickly to secure two guests for tonight and I am not grumbling - I am saying that I would have liked to have seen Travis guest for us as he has been an excellent guest for the Eagles this year but as I said I don't know if he was available or if his average would have fitted in.
I am only stating who I would have liked to have riding for us tonight as I would like to see the Eagles win tonight.

obviously didnt see Hurry up at Lakeside then.

D Watt did ride in poland yesterday scoring 4 points from 4 rides(1,3,0,0)for Wroclaw. The good news is that he is fit and well and didnt get injured. Also it looks like coventry have also had injury problems from last nights polish matches.
olly allen is out with a back injury, and rory s who was also in the same match is struggleing with the injury that kept him out for a month not long ago after falling again in one heat last night.
Sophies Mate

Ben Barker can take one of Olly's rides and their two reserves will need to take the others.

Live updates if you don't have Sky

GazzaH

Having just watched the meeting on Sky, I have two observations which spring to mind. The first, is it just me or did anyone else watching tonights racing get the impression that the presentation and interviews was skewed very favourable towards Coventry? One could be forgiven for thinking they were watching Bees Tv. I know I did.

The second point Chris Harris's comments regarding Lewis tonight after his exclusion from heat 15, Lewis parked it again.... he always does it, it would'nt be so bad if he could ride a bike. Absolutely disgraceful remarks given his seniority in the England team and his level of experience.  It also smacked of a complete lack of professionalism on his part.

In spite of that the team rode well and deserved the three points for the endeavour shown throughout.
ray

just got home from family birthday party , what great news . kling was a klingon , from outer space [ remember the EAGLE comic and dan dare . the good guys win . ] bees had fitness problems too , but we were decimated . brilliant , will watch the recording in the morning . delighted .the real eagles and guests turned up . Very Happy
Kevin54

Caught the last few heats on Sky, excellent result and everyone did their bit.

Hope Bob remembers Hurry at Christmas, an inspired choice of guest in the last two meetings and he did not let us down, considering what the outcome could be if he had another bad crash and injured his arm again the guy has real guts.

As for Haris' comment that he was "nowhere near Cameron",  just shows that good rider though he may be, he really is lacking in the brain cells department Rolling Eyes

Pity the fans didnt.

Just an interesting point, a post on BSF made the comment that when Bridger was being interviewed he made the comment that the team did not want to be in a relegation play-off "with the take-over looming".

Any thoughts?
parker

I have to say that recently Ive become disenchanted with Ricky Kling recent performances, but last night I have to admit he stepped up to the mark and showed the form he was producing up to the mid season mark. I thought his 5-1 with Paul Hurry in heat 2 really gave the team a lift. After  a 1-5 in the first heat I thought "god, lakeside revisited" but from heat 2 onwards we went from strength to strength. Good performance by all the team makes you wonder why we only produce that form every other meeting. Nice to see Eddie and Lewis showing good sportsmanship to each other at the end of each heat when they competed against one another personally I just enjoyed it when Eddie got beat. Enjoyable night, pity the fans didn't turn out to watch it live theres nothing like the smell of victory and sky cant give you that you have to be there for that. Wink
Jaytee

Couldn't agree more GazzaH. The SKY coverage was completely one-sided  and biased towards Coventry (especially the very scary Nigel Pearson). The graphics were wrong - how many times was Gustaffsson shown?, the race number was often wrong, no mention of rider replacement etc. It was a production shambles.

As for Mr ('Definitely') Harris and his phone-wrecking manager, could they not see the clear nudge of Cameron. I would certainly expect better of Oakes. Harris's comments about Lewis were right out of order - perhaps he might want to look at his own gating before criticising others riding.

I'm not surprised that the crowd was so low after what's (Watt's?) being going on recently - what does the promotion/management expect? I could have gone but decided against it but at least now I'm up for the last match which wasn't the case before yesterday.
sussexbulldog

I could not get there last night but I have just watched it and I too agree that the commentary was biased toward Coventry. Thank goodness the ref wasn't.

Yes I shall be there on 19th. I always intended to be anyway.

Let us just hope it is not the last match at Arlington for all time.
ray

with all these posts i am looking forward to watch recording . i hit the mute button most of the time , when at meeting there is no gabbling fool who gets so much wrong , and constantly repeats himself . i am not intrested in those opinions either  , have to respect a person before that happens . ontop of this the ex-riders involved , mainly louis and tatum are total bores . the one and only floppy is the one for the job , now he is an entertainer , and gets his facts right . Idea
as for attendance , not suprised , recent form , three of team out , non-weekend match , and on sky . not suprised at all . Rolling Eyes
Aussie2

I hope all the doubters are eating humble pie.  Wink The replacements for Lukas and Daniel worked. I am going to watch the replay on Sky at lunchtime and see what the one-sided comments are. I think Coventry thought they would come to Arlington and steam roller us. The team manager seemed to be making some strange replacements. Surprised  I was talking to a few of the Coventry supporters, and they said that Sitera should have been kept. The reserves were certainly very very poor. Shocked  This was where we really won the match. It just shows what the team can do.  Very Happy though Davey still seems to be struggling. The reports that Ricky Kling was ill for the last couple of weeks, seems to be true. I do not think that Lukas and Daniel would have done any better, Simon certainly would have scored as many as his replacement rides, if not a few more. A thoroughly enjoyable evening, and wonderful to see Eagles supporters grinning with delight again. Very Happy  Lets hope the team spirit and determination will prevail against Ipswich, this being our last match. We MUST get our revenge against them.  Rolling Eyes  Wink

Argus report is on our front page.
ComeOnYouSpurs

A much better performance all round.

Well done to The Eagles and thanks to the guests.

Despite what it says in The Argus.... with Poole taking on Belle Vue later this week, whatever the result Im pretty sure that one of them wont be able to catch us.... so we aint gonna finish bottom.

Some interesting comments from Lewis regarding next year.

And good to hear Cameron's honest assessment of his below par season. In my book that should win him a place should we survive into next season.

7 points is not 14 like at lakeside so i stand by what i said

I agree that Nigel Pearson's comments were biased. It seems that he wanted Coventry to win. I was absolutely disgusted with Rory Schlein's remarks, that "next time he would run into him".  Shocked This is not the kind of sportsmanship I expect from a top rider. Also agree that Chris Harris remarks are not what I expect from him. Sad  I can understand them being disappointed that they did not collect any points, but it was a collective effort of the team, the reserves not doing anything. They scored 3 against the Eagles reserves of 14 points. I disagree with nug, Paul Hurry did his job at reserve 7 paid 8. His points made the difference between winning and losing. It seems that you cannot please some of the supporters. Confused Saw that Sam Ermolenko was in Coventry's corner, and somebody apparently overheard him say "that it was a flat meeting". Sour grapes because Coventry did not win.   Wink

Well if you add to the fact that at Lakeside Hurry had 6 rides and last night only 4 rides I think I will stand by what I said Nug Wink

A good performance at last. But Because of sky tv we were robbed of a victory parade on monday.
it was announced over the pa that no parade was allowed,
Just how much power do they hold over eastbourne??
sussexbulldog

Are you sure it wasn't past the curfew time ?  I would not have thought a victory parade would make any difference to Sky but I could be wrong.

Anybody throw any light on this ?
nug

At what point have i said that im not happy, all i said was "i delt if we will see the same Hurry going around arlington that we see at lakeside" did we see hurry  win 4 races, beat there number 1 and number 5 at lakeside? Yes we did. Did we see Hurry beat there number 1 and 5 lastnight? No we didnt, he picked up a win in the reserve race beat Barker into 3rd in an other and all other points were taken when racing vs Frampton who scored 0 all night. So my take on things are That we didnt see the same Hurry last night as on friday night.
ComeOnYouSpurs

The only thing I can say is that Sky stayed on air past the finish of the meeting so as to cover the last couple of heats from Belle Vue v Peterbro, the result from which confirmed that Coventry had made the play-offs...... which was pretty much the theme of the entire meeting and the reason why some of you have perceived there to have been a Coventry bias.

There was a delay in completing heat 14 at Kirky Lane which I believe was re-run 3 times.

Because of this they filled in some time with interviews with Trevor and Lewis.

But why this should have stopped a victory parade Im not really sure.

Does it really matter that Hurry did not beat any heat leaders.  Question He scored anough points to help us win. Let's be satisfied that we won and did not lose. I take it people do not read all the posts, i will explain myself again, not once have i moaned and not once have i said that im not satisfied with hurry all i said was dont expect hurry to get 14 points at ourplace like he did at lakeside. Which was proved to be correct,

As I said before that is or was a matter of opinion, fair enough. I do support you nug, you never said you felt unhappy with Hurry in the Home meeting with Coventry It was Timall that thought no Dryml Gustafsson and Nermark with Kling and Hurry at reserve we would lose. either way we won and thats all that matters.
