Eagles v Aces 04/04/2009Any comments or predictions ?
I think we should win this OK and we will see a further improvement in Lukas.

this should , in theory , be one of our easier matches . remember last season , james scored 8+2 . he beat gjedde .

Could we have a warm evening please just for once?

Maximum points to get the home League season started in my opinion. Eagles to win by 14 +.
If we aren't candidates for the wooden spoon, and I don't think any of us really think we are, then Belle View and Ipswich should be despatched at home with some ease.
Actually if we do tinker with the riding positions, this might be an excellent meeting to boost the confidence of Ricky and Floppy.
Although to be fair BV's reserves do look a cut above the average standard of most of the EL , even if the rest of their line up looks decidedly very average.

glad you agree tweagle , we are suggesting this , but will the actual team manager think this , will it even occur to him .?! floppy and kling need this , physically and psychologically . let's share the team managership with some of the others tweagle , at least we all have some common sense . hush my mouth if " they " actually have the presence of mind to do this

Eagles to win by 8-10 points. Better night for Floppy I think and more improvement from Lukas.

and cameron too . looking at their team i think it will be a chance for confidence boost . all 3 points please . am i ever gonna get used to this last bit ?!

I think we will win by about 14 points. Can't really say there is anybody springing out of the belle Vue team that worries me.
First three points on the board.

For any of you long distance travellers, the weather here is excellent, clear blue skies, breezy if a touch on the cool side.
Excellent day for a meeting, with the perfect finish rounded off by a 15+ point win.
God that "wooden spoon" is looking better and better............................................................in someone elses' cabinet

Really solid result last night especially after the first four heats. Lewis is looking pretty special this season and Floppy seems to be picking up. More improvement from Dryml and Simon is flying. All in all a lot to be optimistic about I think? At least all the team is scoring some points which is something that wasn't happening last season.

davey a typical aussie , " bad back , what bad back ?!" real anzac spirit . wasn't fully recovered , of course not , that takes more than 2 or 3 days . well done mate , you're a hero . something still not right with cam , physical or mental , dunno . wish him back to his old self . lewis --- just terrific , and BD threatens to close junior track ?! think he needs anger management and possibly a visit to the shrink .
we appreciate he is losing money , we are losing homes and jobs , but thank you for our speedway , many of us need this to put worries out of our minds .
incidentally there is no charge to use the enclosed top part of grandstand , only the bottom . no problem there then , outside when it is warm enough , upstairs when it isn't . apparently the reason is the upstairs bar and relevant takings . used to use the downstairs grandstand but restricted viewing and gets cold . i wouldn't use it again if he paid me the£1 . incidentally what was the attendance figure please ?

Can we give the d----d grandstand a rest now,?
The "gentlemans club" with the deckchairs and beach umbrellas sounds like it is up and running, all that is needed are some busty blondes, and a couple of ex-Chippendales for the ladies, to pass round the drinks, and everyone will be happy

I really enjoyed last night's meeting.
Some really good races and Lewis was brilliant in heat 15.
Time to stop the moaning and give maximum support.

I think most people are but before we do can we go back to the old way of introducing the riders as was seen as Deano's day where they line up by the start line, as there seems to be a lot more people on that side now for some reason.

well we all know your fantasies now kevin , as long as it isn't the chippendales , or we will have to call the furniture removers .

We are being asked to stop the moaning, i will stop moaning when Bob Dugard stops his nasty antics. I for one am very gratefull of the Dugard family and know that without them speedway would have finished in sussex a long time ago. That does not give him the right to speak to people the way i heard him speak to a fellow SEASON TICKET holder on sat night. Along with a season ticket he brought a seat in the grandstand for the season or he thought he did!! When getting to the grandstand he was asked to pay the £1 he explained his situation and was told bob needs all the money he can get so its a £1 for everone. Not happy with this Bob was called over and Bob told the guy dont know what your worried about all season tickets will be getting a refund in the next couple of weeks and left at that. This guy was gobsmacked. I thought he was very rude and i for one would never speak to my clients like that especially the ones that pay up front. Like i said before Bob has done a lot for eastbourne but this year he has been acting like a right old wally. He for starters needs to look at maybe the way he is acting might be keeping the fans out as well, with he threating to close us down are fans thinking why pay another £15 when we could close the next day. There is fans out there wanting to go who dont go and i feel its not all cos of the credit crunch why they are not coming i see the reason in the way bob has delt with things this year has not helped . I bet that arlington is full a week on monday for the stock car meeting

well kevin , guess what , you haven't got your wish yet , and i don't mean the busty blondes either, still the grandstand . have to agree entirely with nug , who wants anything to do with a rude bully . no we are not over sensitive flowers , ignorance goes with arrogance , and " please " and " sorry " are words unknown to such people . they are usually unhappy , in that instance i can't say sorry either .manners maketh the man , without them he belongs in a field .
but we are attending , where they have missed the boat completely is attracting new fans . we were all new fans once , then something , and often some one made us come again , --- and again etc . get the kids in , their parents will follow . it is a family sport . hardly rocket science , other promotions do it --- promote .

A good meeting and a good result.
Lewis and Simon continue to star.
Davey a hero with his dodgy back.
Floppy and Lukas both steadily improving.
Still question marks over Cameron and Ricky though.
If we could get them going as good as we know they are capable what a team we could have.

i join others in noticing the team spirit , the atmosphere that has not been like that for some time now . it is back , this inspires and invigorates us too . in the pits , on the track , a team to be proud of . you can feel that special togetherness again . still freeze in horror every time david falls , but then so do all of us . we share that too . you will win matches , but you have already won our hearts .

Wonder what is meant by "all season ticket holders will be getting a refund in a couple of weeks". I know BD can be what some people see as being rude, but like many business people he has worries about his business. He is having to lay people off and some are going on a four day week. He has the worry of the fans going through the turnstiles are not covering all the expenses of putting on a meeting. We should all attend every home meeting that we can, otherwise there will be NO speedway at Arlington, and before things pickup the site could well have been sold. I know it was rumoured that an approach was made to Wealden Council sometime ago, but they said that they had no plans to build on that side. Things could well change in the future. So come on you supporters get behind the team and SUPPORT THEM.

I am aware that Bob and diplomacy and niceness don't all go into one sentence.
Earlier in the year after a particularly bad virus attack I was worried sick that I was going out of business but my luck turned the corner. I am only a one man band.
Think what is like to be the head of an international company going through bad times, laying off staff who have become friends and fighting for your survival. No it is probably not an excuse for bad mouthing but I can see the man is extremely stressed.

Problem is the management whoever that was in the recent past chose not to try and actively attract new fans. We've all suggested ways of achieving this, we've all stuck posters up advertising meetings with little encouragement from the promoters. Now early in May we have a Sky meeting, whats the attendance going to be like then, why not try inconjunction with the Argus offer a vougher reducing the family ticket, say 2 adults and 4 kids for £20 or something like that. Its a month away chance to try something. I would add that this is not just an Eastbourne problem and not necessarily due to the recessession but in part due to the "watering down" of the Elite league in general. Back to the thread. I think the new points system might prove to be one of the better changes the wallies at the BSPA have made, trying to get more than 6pts ahead and the opposition trying to get with 6 pts adds a bit more to the meeting.

so when you were severely stressed david , i am sure your behaviour would never have been similar of BD to nug and companion on saturday night . people are losing jobs , houses , everything , do they all go ranting at people they have never met before . yes i agree we must be there for eagles , cos management simply refuse to promote , the deals to get new and old fans to join us are of no intrest to them . so he is stressed , so much of it he brings upon himself . how do you help somebody who won't help himself [ sounds like a suicide bomber ] . so does his treatment of those helping relieve his stress ?!

In posting on here there are over 300 members most of whom never post. My points are aimed at them rather than the old stalwarts like Aussie and you.
I am sending a mass email today to every member. It will go to you and all the other contributors because it is "all or nothing" but I am sure that you will understand.

The other season ticket holder Bob had a rant at was me!! (In fact by the end there was a group of around 10 season ticket holders being shouted at.) I'm not sure I've ever been talked to by anyone that way before, let alone someone who presumably wants my repeat custom!
Not quite sure how to react at the moment but I have certainly lost my love of speedway over the last couple of days. Whether that will return, only time will tell.

I am no fan of Bob Dugard, and as regular posters here will know, I do not make many posts that are complimentary to him.
If what has been recently said that occured at the BV meeting is so, then that is inexcusably rude to patrons who are prepared to put a lot of money "up front" in support of our team.
However; a degree of understanding of possible pressures that he may be under could explain why it happened, even if not excuse it'
He is the head of a large buisiness that operates in this country, and abroad.
He is responsible for the livelihood of a great many employees, probably many of whom have worked for him over a long period of time, and whom he has got to know well.
Like so many others, his buisiness has suffered, he has had to get rid of staff and put others on short time work, with the knowledge as to how that would impact on their livelihood.
As has been documented, he is funding the club from his own finances, which in turn is money coming from his buisiness; a vicious circle as that money could probably be better used assisting his buisiness!
He is under pressure on various fronts; buisiness-wise and pressure to try to keep the club afloat; after all, this has also been a family concern for many years.
Granted, things have been handled the "Dugard" way which may have been fine for the 1970s' and 80s', but not in this era.
Probably the pressure may have got to him this season; as evidencedby the various strange pronouncements over the winter, the manner in which the Kennett "saga" has been handled, the Sky situation.
No, it in no way excuses the rudeness that supporters were subjected to the other night, (and an apology would go someway to alleviate that but might not be forthcoming considering the party involved!), but it might just go some way to explain it.
Anyway, that is just my thought on the subject.

I agree with what you say Kevin but that is Bob Dugard isn't. I would imagine he got cornered and he is the sort of person who reacts that way. To be honest I would have been more surprised if he had acted differently to that. Those of us who have been going to Eastbourne for many years expect that kind of response from him. It isn't right, you should never treat people like that and even if the situation is such that the clubs future is in serious doubt the worst thing you can do is treat those who are supporting the club in that way. Many many people are suffering which is one reason the attendances are lower. Peoples businesses are fighting for survival and we all appreciate what he must be going through. I do feel for the guy if what he says is a genuine reality and the time scale is as he says. None of us want to see the club fold especially not in its 80th year. But a lot of you have tried to come up with ideas to help promote Eastbourne speedway and the car sharing idea is a great one . If he would only sit down and talk to those of you who are desperate to do something to help with ideas etc, who knows what you could come up with. It may be futile in the end but at least he/we could say Eastbourne fans did everything they could to try and save the club and that we ALL worked together. Sometimes you have to swallow that pride and ask for help from others in whatever way you need.
