Click on link below for the full story on our front page. | It does not surprise me that BD has decided to call it a day. I do not blame those who have lost their jobs because of the economic climate for not attending, but some people I know had other reasons. I hope the BSPA and the promotors are suitably shocked, but doubt that they will be. BD must have been a thorn in their sides with his forthright opinions. He passionately cared about speedway and the Eagles, and it is going to be a sad day when this happens. Wonder what Sky will make of it, only 8 teams probably for next season, or their could be less. I do hope that someone can be found, as I know many Eagles fans have supported them through the good times and the not so good.

i understand the words of his statement and appreciate them . we all get older , me certainly , and no longer want to put up with hassle and complications that have evolved . so new promoter or no eagles ? martin dugard ? BD still wants elite league , but things will change anyway . think most of us are disillusioned with the elite league and certainly the bspa . premier would be less hassle and cost . no riders missing through overseas engagements , let alone getting injured on them . but that will be up to the new promotion , they may well ask us to vote in order to judge the likely financial position . don't think it will necessarily be the end of eagles . thank you bobby , we certainly have disagreed at times , so a new era . but the family own the land and the speedway facilities and club itself . if they decide to sell up and for what sort of purchaser will keep this website very busy . doubtless , as usual , there will all kinds of rumours .
will there be an elite league anyway ?!!!

the writings been on the wall of the sty for some time.
Agree with the right honourable Mr Stocks, Premier League is the way forward and I would be staggered if there`s an Elite next year
Sky want at least nine teams and with no Eastbourne, Ipswich, Belle Vue and so on hows that going to work?
Premier league meetings shown on Sky this year have been a long snout infront of both the GP`s and the Elite .
Heres to the future glory of a British team in a British league

Well then let us hope that someone will take us into the PL although it seems that they have more than enough teams already.

yup , who better than peppapig to save the eagles bacon . as for so many teams in premier , a league has been had two regional sections before . there would be more local derbies which would bring in the fans of both teams . a far better future financially alround . but as posted , what teams will the elite consist of next year!? sky would seem to be happy continuing with elite it appears . floppy could well stay with us there , yet another incentive .

Sky are already covering some PL fixtures. As long as the stadium lighting is up to it then they seem to be interested. As mentioned before Belle Vue and Ipswich have also indicated that they may go PL next year. If that happens they are going to need new teams to join the EL for it to continue.

I am, along with many supporters not surprised at the possibility of no speedway at Eastbourne next season, I think its been on the cards since Brimson went. Hagon had a season and quit and now Bobs decided he's had enough and who can blame him. We have all posted about what should have been done to promote our club but the truth of the matter is that Speedway has been in decline for several seasons, probably due to the fact that promoters self interests outweighed the good of the sport and they should now hold their heads in shame, particularly those Elite promoters. Weve all posted that the sport should have been run by an independant body probably too late now for the "Elite League" as it now looks like teams such as Ipswich, Belle Vue may go Premier League next season. Shame that in our 80th season this could possibly be the end of the Eagles.

The damage was done really when Jon Cook went to Lakeside that went we lost any sense with B B and then Martin Hagon coming and finding it tough. We can't alway relay on Bob Dugard to jump to the rescue. Maybe a ex Eagle could take over or can the fans get a group together to take over the club.

Kopstar, your idea of a group of fans to take over is something that i have seriously been thinking about since bobs latest news of wanting to step down. Im afraid that i cant see it ever happening. With out knowing any sort of monies that it needs to run a season (and i cant see bob ever letting us know) but i would of thought we would at least need in the region off one hundred thousand pounds, how we could raise that money in thispresent climate would be very hard. Even if we could get 500 fans which is half the crowd at the moment then it would be £200 each and i cant see 500 fans paying that to be honest. I also feel having so manyshareholders could also be bad for the club as some of them would want to have to big a say, one way around it could be to ask bob what sort of money would be needed to help the club brake even and then see if we can raise it for him. Can you honestly see bob in letting us know. If i get some good feedback from this then im willing to email bob to arrange a chat withhim.

No wonder BD wants to get out of promoting. The latest shennanigans is that Swindon will keep Matej Zagar at the expense of Troy Bachelor. Probably the answer from Swindon is that "it is within the rules". Where have I heard that phrase before. Zagar was signed only as a replacement while Troy was injured. Therefore when Troy is fit he should be back in the team. I feel sorry for Troy, who is now out of a job. Next one to pull this sort of stunt will probably be Coventry. The clubs that play by the rules are the ones that are losing out. I am afraid that in the current economic climate, it is going to be very hard to find somebody to take over. Most of us do not have the kind of money needed to promote the club. I am afraid we need a millionaire, and I do not know one.

Nug with you on this one,but we really need someone in the know, maybe Bob B OR Hagon to come on board.Having said that whats Bob gonna do on a saturday night if no speedway,i cant see him playing bingo, maybe he can just drive his tractor round his garden, but Bobs the type of man that would get bored in no time if he wasnt doing something.

Members take no profit nor take a dividend.Although there is a manager to oversee matchday tactics and training etc, members vote on team selection and transfers and any other major decisions. I can't see how any new promoter could break even in the Elite League. Eagles already only pay loan fees for riders and always use rider replacement to keep costs to the lowest.
We've lost £100k, £30k and £50k? in the last three seasons. People have stopped going because they don't like the product on offer.
Anybody coming in would have to run in the Premier League where we would have more teams to watch and could produce our own riders again. Thats in my view.
I think that a Premier League involvement would increase the attendances myself. What concerns me is Poole, Swindon and Coventry dropping down as well, changing the rules and spoiling that as well.
We could probably use Dave Norris, Cameron etc as heatleaders to kick us off and maintain continunity going forwards.
A Martin Hagon/Martin Dugard Team would be ideal. I've watched some great PL speedway on Sky, particularly, Isle of Wight and Somerset. We would be able to have a local rivary again with Rye House.
There's a lot of potential for Eastbourne if we drop down a league and bring back the enjoyment factor once more.

so right eagle 1971 . also no other team has the facilities for the young hopefuls , their own stadium, track , everything . what tremndous results this has produced over the years . the best of british too . if the elite league continues let it be without us .yes , lesser overheads and increased attendances , a win win situation . back to our roots . no more GPs or overseas engagements restricting our saturday nights or losing riders to them . no more bspa farce , well not as much . infact premier does not need them . break away like the Formula 1 teams intend from the dwarf and pervert that control it with their the clapped out authority which is also past it's sell-by date . both so-called authorities never stop tinkering and changing the rules and regulations , which can only show how often they get things wrong . away from the conniving and cheating of clubs that also try to buy their success too .
what promoter in his right mind would want to stay with the elite league after what has happened and what it has cost over the last few seasons ?!!!

Agree with you 100% Eagle1971.
The Elite League is rapidly going to pot and shooting itself in both feet with both barrels with alarming regularity.
The Premier is a much more attractive proposition all round.
And sorry Sussex Bulldog.... but if it was up to me it would be Sunday afternoons all the way.
Why would that be such a no no for you?

Because I live 120 miles away and have to travel to Eastbourne on business every Saturday. I combine that trip with my trip to speedway. I cannot travel to Eastbourne two days running. It is as simple as that.

eagle 1971 posts that in the premier we may be able to keep floppy and cam . the former would certainly welcome this . hopefully cam too , other aussies are over here riding in premier .so the rest of this year's team , davey and ricky are on loan from their parent clubs and next year could be recalled or elsewhere . all this moving around is not satisfactory on fans or riders . other leagues overseas use the average of the league winners from the previous season , which is not only right and proper , it is fair on riders and fans . many riders have no security at all --- every season . anyway , lukas , as far as i know is not yet our asset , lewis was promised he could move on next season by BD . that leaves simon who is already riding in events and other countries that take precedence over the eagles . good luck to him , his has a great future .
also there are junoirs riding elsewhere who could return home to us .
to keep all fans happy meetings could vary on saturdays and sundays . attendances would proabably increase .
like many others i am totally disillusioned with all the chicanery and incompetance involved in the so-called elite league. premier or nothing for me .
