They should have checked and they would have seen that Deano was holding his Benefit meeting on that day. I do hope that Deano can get a good line-up for his meeting as he deserves it.

I see on the BSPA site that Nicki is going to ride in Swindon's meeting, what a pity he could not have ben at Deano's Benefit meeting. Perhaps it would have been better if Swindon had found out if there were any meetings on this day. They could have put their meeting back to perhaps 8 p.m., perhaps allowing riders to ride in both meetings. Any news on the riders who will be appearing at Arlington on the 15th March.

rather suprised and disappointed . was nicki aware of deano's benefit ? we all would have enjoyed seeing nicki again , on and off the track . his presence would surely have added to the attendance . nicki said if he rode again in the british league it would only be for the eagles . not aware he was close to swindon . a great pity alround . no blame game though, we are not aware of the situation , and whatever it may be we should all throw our support behind deano . cannot help being curious though .

Is there some reason why Deano's meeting couldn't be switched to the Saturday?
Riders like Nicki (who if possible I'm sure would love to do his bit for Dean) could ride at Arlington and them the following day at Swindon.
I know it's only 9 or 10 weeks away, but wouldn't it make sense??

Yes there is ... I've made alternative plans for that day and wouldn't be able to go. I'm sure that those riders who mean the most to Deano will support him and will turn out on the day.

On a purely selfish view that would suit me as I can't make Sundays.
Sorry Mr B
Not much chance of a change though I would not think.

I have heard a rumour from the BSF that Hans Andersen maybe riding (he's not at Swindon the following day either) but you know what BS you find on there.
I really wanted to go to the Swindon meeting as it is as good as a GP meeting plus I have never been to Swindon. This is highly unlikely now because of Deano's meeting which is more important to me.
Plus living in Hailsham, its quite a bit further Blunsdon than Arlington

He will be fit to ride for Deano's bash, don't think he would let an old team mate down..
He is back on a bike next week down in Aussie.

According to the Speedway Star they did try to get the meeting put back to the 14th, but the BSPA denied them, as they said the season officially started on the 15th March. How stupid are they, would it have made a difference to start the season one day earlier, I doubt it. It is not as if this meeting would have clashed with any others. Why weren't the other clubs, especially Swindon, asked if they could start their meeting later, in the evening, perhaps at 7.30 p.m. Ofcourse that would have been a sensible thing to do, but as we know being sensible is not always the trait of the BSPA.

some of the promoters , especially those on the bspa , seem to be totally inconsiderate to eachother , the fans [ the paying customers] and riders even on one-off and special occassion .these people show that given even a little power they are unfit to be given any . these are the people who supposedly "promote " our sport . pathetic little nonentities .

I understand that Dean is still looking for some more sponsors to help out with the cost of his meeting. There are several packages available for you to choose from.
Package A is to be the overall sponsor of the meeting, this will cost £1000.For this you would get a full page advert in the programme, your name or logo would appear on all the race jackets and you would get 10 complimentary tickets.
Package B is to sponsor a rider, this will cost £250. For this you would get a 1/4 page advert in the programme and 4 complimentary tickets.
Package C is to be a heat sponsor, this will cost £150. For this you would get a 1/8 page advert in the programme and 2 complimentary tickets.
All of the above would also have access the sponsors lounge upstairs, if so required.
Also available is tyre and fuel sponsorship for £50. For
this you get an acknowledgment in the programme.
If you like to help and require advertising space there is a deadline from the printers of February 27th. If not you could leave it for a couple more days.
If you feel you can help Dean, please send your cheques, made payable to Dean Barker Farewell to,
c\o Chatfields,
Botolphs Road,
Steyning,
W. Sussex BN44 3WB.
So,if you and 4 friends put £10 each in ,you could be a sponser for tyre and fuel. Better still, if you could put £30 each in, you could be a heat sponsor. Then if you divide the value of the complimentry tickets between you,you would only pay £9 each at the gate on the day.
If you can help ,please do,if not do your best to be there on the day to say thank you to a rider who has given us many years of enjoyment. Over the years Dean has suffered many injuries whilst riding for us, but the fall at Swindon last year has proven to be the final straw, and now he has to call it a day. See you there.

Excellent post Harryhagfors. Maybe you have already done so - in which case my apologies- but I'm sure the Argus would be interested in what you have written. After all you have practically written the article for them And a wider audience might bring in some more money for a very worthwhile cause.
