that's where the contagion has spread from . alround in at least a small way even to the team must be affected also . professional riders frequently if not annually switched to yet another team , never used to be this bad , guests and r/r becoming more common , from 1993 for several seasons we had real eastbourne eagles . the loyalty and team spirit can vary from season to season . these looked good originally , and lukas wanted to join us permantly . but this has dropped with the team rarely being the original seven , and management gave them and us only hot air , and sometimes " porkies " .so our spirit and enthusiasm not suprisingly has dropped for many . still feel a loyalty to the riders though .world war 1 gave rise to the expression "lions led by donkies" , seems rather apt .

Why don't we just close down now!
EDIT..
I posted that before I saw nug's response. If thats the case I'm not happy with that at all. Lewis' home club should be put before a fixture that Poland have had to rearrange. This season is rapidly becomming the most farcial in the history of the sport and I'm begining to wonder why I bother. I pity any Eastbourne fans who've made the trip north.

It is not on, but as i understand the polish match was arranged before our bell vue meeting, if this is true mangement should of known about it before hand and done something about it

Im starting to wonder on how much Brian Owen from The Argus is just made up to help sell the paper to us speedway fans, i can think of 3 recent reports regarding new riders coming to the club etc and then to print as if he has spoken to Lewis about returning to the team tonight just makes me wonder a bit more, in future im taking what tosh he comes up with next with a pinch of salt.

I think that it is a disgrace that this knowledge has just been released. How can the promoters sleep at night by not informing the travelling (and home) supporters that Lewis would not be riding tonight. It sums up how little respect they have for supporters.

Well at least we got Lee Complin as a replacement . Trevor must have moved quick to get him but with so many fixtures on tonight I suppose the choice was limited

We need to find out the truth as i have now been told he is with holding his services from eastbourne. If this is true then he is gonna be smacked with a 28day ban, can we really blame him after the mangement have giving up then the riders will feel like they can as well

The following questions need an answer;
Did management know this, and if so, when?
Did Lewis tell them, or not?
If not, presumably the club will impose a penalty on him.
Whatever the reason, yet again the club, the supporters of both cubs, have suffered as a result of foreign teams.
The Elite League has yet again played second fiddle to foreign teams.
Yet BD states he wants a new promoter to keep the club in the Elite League.
Some supporters say the club should remain in the Elite League.
At the risk of offending some people, they must be potty.

well he is in effect witholding his services if he chooses to ride in a rearranged fixture instead of a scheduled EL meeting. As you are probably aware Ive defended Lewis before when he has taken flak but I cannot defend this and I cant tell you how dissapointed I am with this. A ban will no doubt follow which is rightly deserved but rather than punishing the rider this punishes the club more.
The latest disapointment in a woefull season.

You couldn't make this up, Lewis not riding, Complin's average too high, whats Saturday going to bring? See Lakeside have already got Pedersen lined up for shields, who have we got?? No one yet I expect, no doubt we will get the dregs and another lost meeting at home. I am supposed to be on duty at Arlington on Sat night think I might have to see if I can get a replacement in for me as I don't think i can face watching them even if it is for free. Really think the management don't give a damn any more. If we should be racing next year then Trevor should be sacked, not sure if I'd want BD anywhere near the place. The pair of them should be ashamed of how they are letting the fans and the riders down also they either don't care or don't realise what sort of impression they are giving out or are they that stupid to think no one notices how inept they are???

Just to out line a few things
1-lewis shares the reserve birth all season for his polish club with -----------------wait for it TAI WOFFINDEN!!!(tai is at wolves tonight scoring a hat load of points!!!
2-Both riders were in poland over the weekend so why did lewis have to ride when tai doesnt!!
3-Jonas davidsson should also have been in the same match but was at lakeside scoring a hatful of points!!Jonas is a heat leader in poland yet they let him ride in the uk.
I dont normally get angry but ive got a good mind to go up to Bob(even if i might get my head knocked off!!) and have words.

i wouldn't touch him with a barge-pole , a samuri sword , hmm . i really did not know i could be so angry and disgusted with anyone to this degree -- who wasn't a politician . he is sinking the ship as he leaves , that is something even rats don't do .

Well I await an official word on why Lewis didn't ride tonight but if the management agreed to it they'll be lucky to see me again at Arlington this season however if Lewis did it off his own back then he shouldn't turn out again for us this year IMO.

Head over to the Argus site for Lewis' explanation.... claims he left his passport in a polish restaurant on Sunday night and couldn't get it back in time for his flight back!
|
ComeOnYouSpurs
|
So we lost by 8 points.
A pretty decent effort from the riders concerned.
Im sure we'll have Trevor coming out saying how well we did under the circumstances.
Maybe, Trevor, you should ask yourself exactly who is responsible for those circumstances.... and you wouldn't have far to look for those to blame for why yet another meeting that was there for the winning has been thrown away.
And with regard to Lewis.....
I await the official explanation but...
Im sure many of you wont agree with me but if he has turned his back on the club I wouldn't entirely blame him.
Im sure that when he was persuaded to sign on for this season he wasn't told that we might give it a go as long as everything goes well but we'd just chuck it in if we hit a problem or two.... oh.... but he'd still be expected to go out there and risk his neck in a futile losing cause.
Perhaps he should have read the small print on the contract!!!
Im pretty certain that following this latest in a long running series of farces there will be several others who once looked forward to gracing the Arlington terraces who will also be seriously considering whether its really worth the effort and expense anymore.... me being one of them.

From the Argus
| Quote: |
Lewis Bridger claimed a lost passport prevented him from racing for Eastbourne Eagles at Belle Vue.
Bridger was due to take a 5.50am flight from Poland and join his colleagues in Manchester.
Instead he told team manager Trevor Geer he could not make the meeting and later scored three points for Czestochowa at Bydgoszcz in the Polish Ekstraliga.
Initial reports suggested Bridger had pulled out through illness but he said: “I left my passport in my jacket in a restaurant on Sunday night.
“The restaurant didn’t open until nine in the morning. In the end they had to get the passport to me at Bydgoszcz by taxi.”
Bridger insisted the move was not pre-planned and said he had no idea where reports of an illness had come from.
He added: “I phoned the English federation to tell them about the passport. I never even thought I’d get start permission in Poland.”
Bridger could now face a 28-day suspension from the Elite League. He was fined £300 by the British speedway authorities, as were Eagles for tracking a below strength side. |
We were fined £300
Here's a question... we were told we couldn't sign Swidders because Simon's average has now gone up yet for this meeting he's still at reserve!? I'm sure sombody will say although the averages change the team posistions don't till the end of the month or something stupid like that but really this is all getting beyond a joke now

just looked at how lewis got on tonight and not only was he late for his flight,he was also late getting to the tapes for his last 2 rides in poland being excluded under the 2minute rule both times!!!

|
Well done the the depleted Eagles, if Bridger had been there.............................................??
COUS, I'm sorry to say it, but this time I am going to have to, in a gentlemanly way, disagree with you.
Bridger owes BD a lot nore than just his signature on his contract.
After all the difficulties he experienced last season; the court case and the incident at the Ipswich meeting; BD stuck with him when a lot of people would not.
Now, if he chose Poland over the club, he has thrown that belief and support right back in his face.
To say he "lost" his passport is daft, do you walk into a restraunt wearing a jacket, and walk out without it?
The guy is supposed to be a professional, in his position his passport is part of his equipment.
Unfortunately I do agree with your last sentence, yet again the club will suffer for something that is not entirely of their making.
|
ComeOnYouSpurs
|
Kevin54..... your first sentence includes that huge word IF.....
Sadly the last 3 seasons have been full of ifs.
And with regard to Lewis shunning the belief Bob has shown in him....
Fair point.... but aren't both the riders and we the supporters entitled to the belief that if Bob insists on remaining in the Elite League then he will give it 100% to compete for the damn thing and field a full and competitive team on all but the most extreme and unavoidable ocassions....
To cope and deal with problems and injuries as and when they occur.... which sadly in our sport they inevitably will....
Not to be taken for granted and expected to turn up regardless of what rubbish is put out under the once great name of The Eagles....
That the club wont take the "cheap option" every single time....
Not to be fed dodgy promises and false hope regarding new signings and possible improvements to the line up.....
Has that belief not been thrown back in our faces?

we were told that bridger would stay one more year , as with kennet leaving this changed views both sides .lewis' terms and contract were enough to keep him happy.lack of sponsors and promoter partners was soon a problem . two prospective promoters were mentioned , but we heard no more at all .this was one of the first deceits and broken promises there were to be . we have been so trusting , it now appears "gullible" would be a more correct word . who would ever have believed we would ever have been treated this way by our so-called management . incredible , after all these years . no wonder most of us are shocked , disillusioned and feel betrayed .
so BD has promised to loan riders contracted to him to a new promoter next season , without charge .sounds good , we now know better . watt , dryml [ BD wil hardly buy him now ] kling are not our assets , bridger promised a move , floppy seriously injured and future uncertain ,so cameron and simon are left . if a new promotion does come in [ surely not so suicidal to go for elite and saturday nights after the last three seasons ] what could that leave us , could or would cam or simon ride in the premier league . ?! would appear to be another worthless and decieving offer . it is possible floppy could return [ but he would not ride for anyother team ]and if premier made notable changes including points limits and averages then maybe cam could stay . bearing in mind the number of elite teams that seemingly cannot continue and are intrested in the premier , how many teams would remain and how many riders would be employed ?! in the elite there would still be the problems of GPs and other prioritised foreign engagements . olsen and lacklustre bspa would still rule over us . in premier the latter does not seem to be so involved . if no elite then bspa wopuld have top disband anyway .got to stop now , all too depressing , unless of course a new promoter took us into the premier , and eagles could begin again . sorry to involve so many aspects that belong to other sections of the website , but they are all interlinked .

Not good reading about Lewis from the Aces chief
| Quote: | BELLE Vue chief David Gordon blasted Great Britain World Cup star Lewis Bridger for his non-appearance at last night’s Elite League match.
Bridger, the Eastbourne No 1, sent a message saying he was unfit to ride and Stoke’s Lee Complin was given a last-minute booking to replace him.
Then, shortly before the start, it was discovered Bridger was racing in Poland which forced Eastbourne to tell a furious Complin he couldn’t ride.
It also meant Eastbourne could have only one rider in three races and while the situation helped the 151 Aces to an eight-point win, Gordon was far from happy.
He said: “As far as I’m concerned Bridger cheated himself, his club and also our fans who paid good money to get in and saw three three-man races. |

I expect he thought bother (or a word to that effect) Eastbourne they havent any ambition so I'll have a ride out with my polish team tonight might get a ride next season. Theres an apathy in our club and unfortunately it spreads from the top down. Having said that I thought the 5 did really well last night. and lastly. Just one point to add my big wooden spoon to the subject.....
If said restaurant opened at 9 o'clock couldn't Lewis have still picked up his missing passport and with 11 or 12 hours (allowing for time difference) available still made it to Manchester in time for our meeting?

To be fair to him he was due to ride for Czestochowa on Sunday evening along with Lee Richardson.
All riders who ride in Poland on the Sunday stay in a hotel and fly back to the UK early Monday morning if they need to be back. Richardson made it back to be at Arena Essex during the DAY so he could help Swiderski set his engines up for the meeting that evening..

Well, if that bit regarding Lee Complin is correct, it absolves Trevor from any flak he has received about making an error over the averages, if it was considered that Bridger was "witholdinng" his services, they presumably could not replace him, and if they discovered he was riding elsewhere......!?

You should read the latest two pieces in 'news' on Lewis Bridger's website as even his own team are unhappy with Lewis.
|
MrHooter
|
Further to Kevin54s post I think Trevor was put in a terrible position over this. Word at the stadium was that Lewis had phoned to say he was sick. Lee was brought in at very short notice and was introduced on the parade lap. There was a bit of a delay when the riders went back after the warm up before the announcer came on to say that websites were showing that Lewis was riding in Poland so Lee would not be able to ride. The announcer made particular reference to their being no attempt by Trevor to mislead or misrepresent by his actions.
Well done to the riders who did turn up. Huge effort to cover as well as they did given the circumstances.
Small group of travelling fans did well to help raise the team as well. Nice touch by Belle Vue to invite them to watch the last race from the centre green to say thanks for supporting the meeting.

a team manager must surely be aware of his own riders averages and know that of an intended guest, also how this will affect the overall team limit , that is an essential part of his job . therefore , not unusally trevor has failed . not his fault over the bridger business , when was he aware of the problem , and when was bridger due back originally , though this makes no difference except how briger is treated . when a rider is suspended for witholding his services it is normal for the affected club to be allowed a guest within the normal parameters . they may elect instead to utilise the dreaded r/r . with our case we still were using this facility already . another failing of management --- other teams have managed worse situations and even re-built their 1 to 7 without our seeming problems .

Ray you have misunderstood. The guest would have been allowed if Lewis had been sick. The facility was not allowed as he had gone awol.
