A message from Bob Dugard

11th May, First Sky Meeting of the Season

The Eagles are going from strength to strength this season and although financially we’re going through a rough patch you as fans have all been extremely supportive.  With that in mind we’ve decided to say a massive thank you in the form of extra special Lucky Programme Prizes at the Sky meeting on May 11th.  We’ve got 10 vouchers hidden inside the programmes all for a fantastic £100 cash prize!

It’s set to be a fantastic meeting so we look forward to seeing you all!
speedy dan boy

All of a sudden the 2009 season is going from strenth to strenth and the garden is looking more rosey by the month, maybe by August we will be in fall blossam!!!
MrB

A massive thank you? Hardly as only 10 people will benefit! Will the chance to win 100 quid attract people to an off night sky fixture, I dont think so but I guess its better than nothing Rolling Eyes

Interestly nobody has mentioned the discount vouchers that were sent out to some Hailsham residents last week with a flyer expaining what speedway is all about. Maybe finally some promoting is actually being done! Smile
ray

well there they go again , having made an effort , not telling us again . we especially want to hear the good news . Confused

I wonder how many were sent out then? As nobody else has mentioned it yet I suspect it was limited to maybe see how it works and then issue some more Idea

" limited " being the word .give none , costs nuthin ' , brings in ----- you've guessed it ----- nuthin'  Sad

I think it is about time people stopped grumbling. Whatever BD does it seems there is always somebody their to criticize, just be thankful we have got speedway at Arlington. Rolling Eyes  Wink

My rant! It is getting time now for all moaners to QUIT..you are not doing speedway any favours. Fair enough everyone is entitled to free speech and to be honest it is great reading all opinions and the odd argument is also great.
Certainly mistakes are made by management but who would want their job Exclamation
With regard to the advertising & promotion has anyone any idea how much it cost print lealfets, posters and advertise..most probably not. Any kind of advertising is good even if it only reaches a few at least it is something to build on cheaply.
I truly hope Eagles go on forever and will support them through & through Very Happy

Travelator, At last somebody else like me who is sick and tired of the constant moaning. Perhaps those who constantly moan should stop and support the Eagles by attending meetings. It is very hard sometimes to curb oneself, and not be rude to the moaners. Wink
ray

they should also be grateful , without us they would have nothing to manage [ they are doing a good job of this ] and nothing to promote [ very poor at this .] this is why we post the way we do , their lack of the latter could mean there would be no speedway for anyone . on that basis we will contiue to be concerned , and express this .  not as if they read this or would take any notice anyway . that is why the posts continue this way .  Sad  Surprised  Cool  Wink

I thoroughly agree here.  I have got it in the neck a few times for saying this same thing.  It's all very well saying they should be grateful and it is just concern but to keep on and on is very tiring and is obviously not having the desired effect anyway. All the moaning is doing now is winding the rest of us up! Positive criticism I can take constant whinging I can't sorry.
sas

Perhaps positive critcism isnt the right phrase constructive may be better!

I think you and Aussie2 are have a point. we have, in my opinion as good a"team"(given the level of speedway we now have) as we have had for several seasons. It seems that the Supporters club is starting to show its self with some inventive ideas with the Buddies promotion and are pushing draw ticket sales more vigourously. We are starting to promote the Sky meeting with some lucky programme winners. You know Ray from little Acorns Oak trees grow. We should be grateful with out them we would have no speedway and it appears that although they dont read our posts at least the are coming round to the conclusions we made several seasons ago. Lets get behind the team now, leave the moans until the close season and savour being Top of the League even if its only for a few days Wink
ray

we are behind the team , that is clearly and frequently posted .we do appreciate the team management including the new number 8 . no criticism , we are not being disloyal . our concern is the lack of promotion and sponsorship , and the future of the eagles . this can hardly be called " whingeing " . now there does appear to be some effort at last to address the lack of promotion . it is a beginning . i now take my wife to meetings , that is not being unsupportive at all . if we all took one extra person this is being supportive . the real " whingers " are surely those who criticise others , who inspite of  their concerns and the financial  income, are actually doing something constructive .we are not wringing our hands , we are clapping them . let us hear or see something constructive and supportive from you . Cool
sas

I decided at the beginning of the season that the best way to support the club was to try and encourage friends and colleagues to give the sport a go and this I have done.  So far I have managed to persuade 4 people to attend  and see what speedway is all about and hopefully as the better weather comes along they too will bring in more support. They have all said that they found it entertaining and what a good team we have. Like a lot of us they can't afford every meeting but are keen to attend meetings when they have the cash to do so.  It may not be much but as they say every little helps.
sussexbulldog

I managed to get an old fan to return on Saturday and he and his mate enjoyed it and will come again.  As you say every little helps. Cool
ray

attendance 1,300 - see what happens if we all pull together . new or returning fans will surely want to continue seeing matches that we have had at arlington this season .it is about getting them there initially .as posted my better half now attends with me regularly too . Very Happy

Indeed, which is why so many of us have been banging on now for ages about the promotion of the club to the annoyance of some. Rolling Eyes

1300 for the Ippo match is certainly more than I was expecting for this fixture especially as we were missing 2 riders and the Argus didn't run a preview on Friday but maybe the little promotion the club is doing paid off! I'd be interested to hear how many discount vouchers were used this week and how many paid full price but it shows that a little promotion of the club will go a long way, fingers crossed a bit more is done when the decent weather arrives.
sas

I think also what hasn't helped this season is the fewer number of oppostion supporters travelling down, it isn't just fewer home supporters.  Ipswich brought a few on saturday, unfortunately some were not too pleasant but at least they put money in the coffers.
ray

probably right sas , how many teams are strong enough to encourage their fans to follow them down to the west coast , and how much will it cost them ? how many of our fans can and will travel north ?! Wink  Question
Aussie2

A good attendance for last Saturday's meeting, but how many will opt out on the Monday against Swindon. I know fans who have said, "I will stay at home and watch it on television".  Those that work may find it difficult to get to the track, but those that have retired should have no problem.  Question  Wink

Yes that will be interesting. I haven't decided 1 way or the other yet, I normally give sky meetings a miss for a few of those reasons but I will probably make the effort to go to this one as I still have a discount voucher Wink  I don't think the lucky programmes will draw the crowds in and I do think the promotion should be doing more for this meeting but will be interesting to see the turn out for a top team on an off night.
ray

the retired would have no problems attending sky meetings on mondays if they live a few minutes from the track as you do aussie2. petrol money ,2 lots of £ 13 , time and trouble driving down with traffic congestion of those returning from work , unlike saturday nites . drive takes an extra half hour .one ot the reasons no season ticket this year , why throw money away . there are many in our position , and you are not one of them . Cool  Wink
sussexbulldog

I am a pensioner but not retired as I have nine more years to pay my mortgage !  Very Happy  My journey from Broadstairs is between two and two and a half hours each way and would be increased on a Monday and add petrol to that and there is no way I could afford it including loss of earnings by leaving the office early.

And I thought you posted in response to one by sas  that you and your wife attended regularly now Wink Rolling Eyes Theres no meeting this coming Saturday so just leave home early on Monday drive without racing the engine so as to save fuel, spend the afternoon on the promenade, and then come inland for the meeting, Misses will love it Wink
emjay

Well, if its a nice evening, I may make this Monday my first meeting this year.  Nobody came dropping vouchers round Biddenden (Surprise, surprise!) so I'll just have to stump up the OAP fee. If I bosh it on the credit card it puts payment off until next month !  Will be nice to see Lee Adams again, but would also be nice to see Swindon turned over.  Pretty good chance of that, I would think.
samthepalaceman

I don't have any moans and groans as the team is doing well and Dugard is trying plus he has a multi million pound multinational company to run.

All I will say addressing the attendance which is quite low compared to other EL teams, the price is quite high, not as high as football matches yet but it is rapidly catching up (not Premier matches). It's the adult prices that need to do offers on as juniors rely on their parents to take them.
ray

parker , regularly means often but not always , explained that when i said i , amongst others , have this season not bought a season ticket . surely you still haven't been to specsavers . probably coz you are unable to look up or read their address . does that mean you are making a spectacle of yourself ?! Laughing relax dear , it's only a commercial Wink
