I have stood up for and defended Lewis on a number of occasions in the past, but I have been very disappointed with him so far this season.
At Arlington he has been ok but his away performances have been awful and one of the main reasons why our away results have not been as good as we would have hoped for.
This is his third season in the Elite League, and while it would be unreasonable to expect him to be a world beater at this stage of his career, I think it is perfectly fair to say that we should be seeing signs of development and improvement.
Instead he seems to be going backwards.
The guy clearly has talent on the bike, but it seems obvious that something isnt right.
Whether its attitude, application, preperation or whatever, I dont know, but it would be a real shame if he allowed his undoubted talent and ability to go to waste.
But if he doesnt get it right between the ears then unfortunately thats the way it could easily go.

Anyone out there remember Darren Shand?
Very good post indeed.
There is no excuse this year, he has 2 highly experienced riders in the pits with him, both team men as well.
The club have stuck with him with his "problem".
so have the supporters.
He needs to take a long hard look at himself and repay the support he's had, cut out all the showboating and wheelies until he regularly turns in some steady solid scores for the team.
If he doesn't then sadly it could possibly be another case of what may have been.

Ive not seen him away from home so far this season and his point return on away fixtures perhaps could perhaps have been better. I just feel a times even when he's team riding with Scott he still seems to have the "I got to win attitude" that comes with youth, puts his performance above the requirements of the team. There has been occassions this year when I pt would have been better than nothing when going for an impossible 2nd when his Leader is winning the heat and then falling off, luckily it didnt adversly affect the team or the result. Whether its attitude, application preperation .I dont know, probable more immaturity of youth theres no doubt he has got a talent and he is in the right place for that talent to be nurtured. He just frustrates at times.
yes i remember darren shand too , and he didn't have the talent lewis has , which makes it an even greater shame . hope he remembers nicki's advice and learns his lesson [ as we all have to ] it is only the on and off track immaturity . seem to remember that old saying---- youth is wasted on the young . c'mon lewis , you can have a wonderful future and life , you just have to realise it .
i know he is only 18 and iwould still back him to become a superstar but like many of the above posts i agree something is not quite right.does anyone think his riding style has changed, the front wheel seems to be coming up a lot more and he keeps on sticking his leg out trying to balance the bike.is it abad habbit hes got into,if so someone should help.david norris or someone he wont back chat to give advice.
Could be that he's just sick of all the slagging off he gets, he can't seem to do right for doing wrong!!!
I agree with lozbaz, I think it is about time we left Lewis alone. I was absolutely upset about what he had done, and do not condone what he did. He knows he was in the wrong, and everybody getting on at him might well end up in him leaving the club. He is our brightest young English prospect for some time. He must now put all his energy into riding for the club. Let's just leave well alone and let him get on with doing what he does well on the track. _________________ Supporting the Eagles through the good times as well as the bad

Thoroughly agree with both of these comments. Encouragement and support rather than continuous sniping is what is needed here.
I agree with most of the comments, he does have serious potential, however I think his attitude needs to change. I remeber reading something in the speedway star a few weeks back, when he said that he preferred working with Scott than Nicki as Nicki pushed him to much, however he couldnt learn anything from Scott because he already knew it.
To me that show that your not willinging to learn anything.
What do you want Lewis. To be a talented, good rider or known to everyone as a big head know it all. Well????

My original post was nothing to do with any off track antics.... purely the fact that his performances, especially away from home, seem to be going backwards.....
We all know that Lewis has the talent and the potential to go to the top in the sport, and we hope he does it with The Eagles.....
His performances on track were fine untill the hearing and I think it's this hanging over him that has affected him. _________________ Palace & Eastbourne, a perfect pair of eagles
Lewis has alot of potential however recently he has hit a bit of a downward. Im sure his off the track life is hangin over him but once he gets the helmet on, he is a racer! im sure it will come back to him very soon! _________________
I see in this weeks Speedway Star that Chris (Louby!) Louis is upset because Lewis hasn't rung him to see how he is after his crash in the recent Witches v Eagles meeting.
Perhaps he would have liked him to tuck him in, read him a story and give him a nite-nite kiss as well!!
we all know tatum is a big girl's blouse , and is in dire need of a personality transplant . how can some one so boring , yes he always has been biased on many things and people , get a job as a tv presenter ?! see thread on sky sports team .
well we needed some good news . should be a weight off lewis' shoulders and make him realise how he has a wonderful career infront of him . hey , we all mistakes at his age , i certainly did , some helped me grow up , and to realise i didn't want to lose what i had . i say " had" coz i am not sure i still have it , but then my memory is getting bad too . !!!!
