The Argus says.........
Eagles new boy gives fans a lift
By Brian Owen
Lee Richardson today vowed to make a full recovery from close-season injury ready for his first season as an Eastbourne Eagle.
Richardson, brought in for next season from Swindon Robins, has had tendons in his thigh removed after aggravating an injury in last season's play-off final.
He is now back in the gym six times a week and lining up practice sessions ahead of the new-look Eagles' season, which gets under way in mid-March.
Hastings-based Richardson, 28, said: "I originally got injured in a league match.
"I then fell in the play-off final and that finished my season.
"I damaged abductor tendons in my leg and I've had an operation to have a couple of them removed.
"Now I'm in the gym, doing rehab and building the leg back up again.
"It's quite hard starting again. I'll be doing a lot of leg work and I plan to do some motocross in February just to get back on a bike.
"I've got an offer to go to Slovenia with my Polish track in March to do some practice and I will go for that as well. I need to because I haven't ridden since October 1."

Rico all OK in Poland By Brian Owen of the Argus
Lee Richardson has reported no ill effects after a successful Polish league comeback.
The Eastbourne Eagles skipper raced his first home Ekstraliga meeting of the season and scored 6+2 (4) as Czestochowa thumped Wroclaw 60-33 yesterday.
Engine failure in his final heat cost Richardson, back from a wrist injury, further reward.
Meanwhile Scott Nicholls scored 9 (5) as lowly Rzeszow gave their season a timely lift by winning 47-44 at derby rivals Tarnow. _________________ click here for the latest front page news

Lee Richardson is closing in on a return to the Grand Prix series after snatching a dramatic success in Italy.
The Eastbourne captain finished top of the podium in the GP qualifying semi-final at Terenzano, scoring 12 points from five rides and then winning a race-off.
Richardson, who has been off the SGP circuit for the last two seasons, had clinched his place in the qualifying final by his fourth ride.
He went on to win the meeting in a two-man decider against Jesper B Monberg and now heads to the final in Poland, from which the top three will clinch places in next year's series.
There was disappointment for Eagles youngster Edward Kennett in the other semi. After starting with a last place, Kennett tallied eight points from his last four rides to miss qualification by a point. He then finished second to Mads Korneliusson in a race-off to decide who went to the final, in September, as reserve. _________________ click here for the latest front page news
Interesting article on page 24 in this weeks Speedway Star. Lee has cleared up much of the speculation about his health, especially during the time when he was riding for Coventry & Swindon. As he said speedway supporters can be very unforgiving, and I daresay I hope that many of us/them will hang their heads in shame. It must have been an absolutely awful time, especially for him and his family awaiting the results of the tests. I know how they must have felt, because my husband and I went through it with our daughter. All I can say to Lee is "Keep taking the tablets when needed", and keep up the good work at Arlington. It seems that both Lee and Scott have been rejuvenated since coming to Arlington. _________________ Supporting the Eagles through the good times as well as the bad
Not having seen my copy yet, again it seems they can't deliver on time over here , can you enlighten me please?
It seems that some people hid behind the internet and said that Lee was always ill. This is the reason he has finally opened the doctor's casebook on his health. At first it was thought he might have prostrate cancer. It turned out he had probably caught a blood infection in Australia, which affected his prostrate. He might have caught it in the water. He also said that it is a prostrate infection that will never go away, but that he will have to live with it for the rest of his life. Lee also said that he can feel it coming on, and that is when he has to take antibiotics to keep it under control. Hope that helps, but it is quite a long article, and this is just the gist. _________________ Supporting the Eagles through the good times as well as the bad

Thanks for the update Aussie I havent received my Star yet and I live in the Metropolis not some back water place like Firle
Thanks Aussie, I should think that must have been a pretty grim time for him and his family.
What do you mean, Parker?
We've got running water, electricity, and up at the big house they've got a machine which shows you pictures in black and white from all over the world
it would appear lee does not have the best of health , and this goes back some years . we just have to understand this , it has held back his perfomances at times . we should understand this and make allowances . on his day , as we have seen this year , and on previous visits he can be unbeatable , just have to support him when he needs us to .

I am sure that Lee was as equally disappointed as we all were. Both my husband and I thought he did not look himself on the Monday, and definitely on the Thursday he looked ill. Most of us that now know his story will make allowances, but if he was not feeling well he should have perhaps stood down. It would help if he could let us know why his form was so bad in both rounds. _________________ Supporting the Eagles through the good times as well as the bad
How uncaring the BSPA are, all they had to do was check Lee's story. It must have been a strain riding that night knowing his father-in-law had been admitted to hospital with a brain tumour. In this instance family should have come first, and the BSPA should have realised this. It proves what they are like, uncaring and only looking after their own interests. I do sympathise with Lee, as I and my husband went through this with our daughter, and we know the strain it places on ALL family members. We wish Lee and his family, and hope things will improve. _________________ Supporting the Eagles through the good times as well as the bad
Heartily agree with you. Of course Lee should have been allowed leave to be with his family. The ruling is disgraceful. _________________ click here for the latest front page news
