Davey started his British speedway career in 2001, when he signed for the Isle of Wight in the Premier League. The following year he stayed in the Premier League, but this time headed north, where he teamed-up with the Newcastle Diamonds.
In 2002 he agained switched teams, this time lining up for King's Lynn in the Premier League, whilst also doubling up with his parent club, the Poole Pirates, and was part of the Pirates Elite League winning team the following season, 2003.
Moving up into the Elite League on a full-time basis with Poole for the start of 2004, an injury early on in the season saw him replaced in the Pirates line-up by Krzysztof Kasprzak. And, after he had recovered from his injury, he remained in the Elite League with a loan move along the south coast to the Eastbourne Eagles, where he remained until 2006, when he moved to Oxford for a year.
He returned to Eastbourne in 2007, where he added two points to his average by the end of the season and was voted Eastbourne's Rider of the Year. He also finished fourth in the Elite League Riders Championship, and won a bronze medal with Australia at the 2007 Speedway World Cup.
Davey looked set to stay with Eastbourne in 2008 but, after a change of management at the club, he was left without a team place until Poole stepped in and offered their asset a place for 2008, where he spearhead the Pirates team alongside Danish Speedway Grand Prix rider Bjarne Pedersen.
In europe, Davey rode for Masarna Avesta in the Swedish Elitserien from 2006 until the end of last season, when a close season move saw him sign for the Lejonen Lions for the current campaign.
In Poland, Davey started out with the GTZ Grudziadz team in the Polish second division in 2006, before joining Polish Ekstraliga team Stal Rzeszów in 2007. Davey was made the team captain of Stal Rzeszów for the 2008 season, but has moved to the Atlas Wroclaw club for 2009.
